Next Expansion

I'm going to take a look around at some of those threads and then post here again, but I have to maintain one thing: Honest Abe. He simply has to be in the expansion pack.

I hope they will release an expansion which will focus on some of the weaknesses of the game: Modern Era, Naval Warfare.
About the xp i'm sure it will be released this summer.

I agree 100%. Modern era is so weak in Civ IV that even vanilla Civ III had more units.

Plus the stealth bomber shouldn't be the default late modern bomber. That should be the B-52. "Stealth" should be it's own tech or at least a buildable national wonder, with the resulting stealth bomber dealing less collateral damage, more direct damage, and a much smaller chance of being intercepted.

I think that there should be more modern units. Also post longbow and pre grenadier it is very difficult to take cities they shoulg have a swordsman type unit instead of just a maceman.

It's all right. But I'm standing firm on that point: President Abraham Lincoln, one of the most skilled orators in the history of the United States, needs to be added to the game. I wouldn't mind President Thomas Jefferson as well, although he tends to be overshadowed by the other great men of the age and I don't think Firaxis would give America 4 leaders. Three, likely, because other Civs already have three and its an American company. But 4? Unlikely.

But I can dream.

Lincoln absolutly needs to be in the game and while we are on the subject, they picked the wrong Roosevelt (but it is not surprising considering the extreme leftist pandering they engage in).

~ Privateers. Would do wonders to improve Naval operations.

Wrong Roosevelt? Teddy was a blusterer. I would rate him below Jefferson, Lincoln, and the two other Presidents currently in the game, but not by much.

No doubt, that is a popular opinion, but one foistered by inaccurate info.

I put James Polk ahead of the Socialist phoney, Franklin Roosevelt. If he hadn't lost the sensitivity in his testicles from sitting on them too long, the US could have cut a better deal for themselves in Europe after WW2

Jefferson is #1
Lincoln 1A.

And,so long as they never give that miscreant Kennedy any props, I can keep my dander under control.

I'm guessing FDR is in the game due to being WWII leader on the victorious side - same as the rest of the bunch. Nothing really to do about his character or abilities, just about when he was in the position.

I don't know enough about the presidents of US to choose any for future expansions. At least I know Abe by name and superficially by reputation, so good enough for me :)

I hope the next expansion will be for modders. Something like "God's Toolbox" with lots of editors. Most of all this game needs an events editor. It could also use a more robust map editor, and GUI editors for the majority of the XML files, and some standardization and modularity to modding. Already users outside Firaxis are building these things, so they just need to get them together, then throw in a few new civs, units, and leaderheads.

A better map editor would be great... something stand-alone, like Civ3 had. I like making maps for my hotseat games, and it's a pain in the arse to make them in C4W.

I'd like Civil Wars to be an option, too. Make it like everything else, where you can choose whether or not to allow Civil Wars in a game (like Permenant Alliances).

Other than that, it would be nice to have more cool options for the 'builder' side of the game (culture, diplomacy).

Although I don't think it would happen, it would be kinda cool to have the lat game expand at least to the moon. But, that's kind of out of the scope of the game, so I won't hold my breath. :D

:mischief: Somebody has some opinions about FDR. I still rate him highly, given the situation he was in. But Polk? You must be a conservative, in favor of arbitrarily invading neighboring countries and annexing vast amounts of their territory...that typically doesn't fit in with the "modern" American self-image (I can't seem to picture any conservative saying we should make Mexico part of the United States). I'm not going to argue with the results, though--California has the highest GDP of any American state and a greater GDP than most foreign nation--it's a good thing that's in American hands and not Mexican hands. For Americans.

Teddy not a blusterer? Big stick diplomacy, right? The guy who went blind in one eye because he was boxing in the White House? The man who decided it would be a great idea to cut off South America from the North by cutting a canal through it? The man who decided to show off the rather large and intimidating American fleet by floating it around the world? Okay...whatever you say. Sounds a little over the top for me. ;)

I would hope that "more robust diplomacy" would include a re-tooling of the UN--perhaps a higher threshold for some of the universal civic votes, and an option for civs to become "renegade nations" at a high diplomatic penalty.

I would like to see more diplomatic alliances, with a similar system to the UN. the UN isn't the only grouping of nations after all. Take the EU for example. So you could invite friendly nations into it and have things like "defend all members" and "open borders for all" as "resolutions".

This is almost certain, unless Firaxis scraps it. The Firaxians have been posting on these forums every so often, asking for what modders would like to see in the next expansion pack and so on. Code things, specific ideas that many would like to see implemented in the main game, and the like.

What exactly is in it...depends. I've heard from reputable sources (on this board) that say diplomacy and spies are being revamped, but past that I haven't the foggiest. But, as I said before, I can dream.
