It's well passed 6pm in Mongolia...:shifty:

So, since we're pretty much sure it's going to be Mongolia (although I would have prefered it if they now reveal a Civ we weren't sure would be in the game), any last minute guesses about them ?
I think they're pretty good candidates for a unique Encampment. A unique Stable would a bit problematic since you already don't have many Encampments and you'll want at least one with a Barracks. Or maybe their UB replaces Barracks and Stables, gives the bonus of both buildings + something extra.
As for their UA, I think it might tie into the loyalty system.
How about:
Mongol Terror (yeah, not creative, same name as in Civ 5)
Killing units increases loyalty in your own cities and decreases loyalty in all foreign cities (or cities belonging to that civ whose unit you killes) in a x tile range.

Oh, and the UU is almost certanly the Keshik as a ranged (or hybrid melee ranged like the Immortal) Knight replacement.

Ooo--Chingiz's ability might give him loyalty (negative loyalty to his opponents) and science from razing cities.

I would actually hate that. I don't like razing cities unless the location is really GARBAGE TRASH.

I don't either--but that means it would make a different way to play the game for me, utilizing a mechanic I don't really use. It would represent their use of terror to convince other enemy cities to give up, and their appropriation of local technology to their own uses.

Rush up with your horse archers, take and sack a small border town; which explodes disloyalty all over the nearby cities making them easier to take

Hmm...
I don't like outright razing cities, but I'm not above some pillaging if the situation calls for it.
So...increased yields from pillaging and loyalty effects from pillaging districts ?

I hate pillaging. I'm never just skirmishing in Civ games. If I go to war, it's to win. If I'm about to take the city anyway, why damage my own stuff? If it helped lower city defenses...maybe.

But don't you see, that is what would make it interesting. That's it's using something you're "never just" using. If a new civ just encouraged you to do what you'd be doing anyway, what's the point at all?

I think pillaging wars in which you don‘t conquer cities need more encouragement anyway. They should be more frequent and useful. Right now, I‘m only doing it with Norway on water maps.

I agree with you, but Norway has a pillage bonus and I still never use it. If it's science or culture, or any other boost, it better be an insane bonus to justify the number of turns required to repair a district.

If it isn't powerful enough, it can't be justified, but if it's too powerful, you can just exploit it.

If it actively aided me in taking the city by reducing city defense then I might consider it.

Well it looks like nothing unintentionally (or intentionally) leaked over the weekend ... wait no I'm not here ... I'm asleep ... yes, that's right

Most likely we will see the video in half an hour. Mongolia isn't a big market, but just a big name to include in this expansion. Mongolia is also sparsely populated nowadays.
