Bad News!

This just in to our team mailbox...

Dear Friends of the Green Continent

We have recieved your proposal regarding the trade for Republic, the quest for knowledge of Construction and the wish for peace.
Our teams have, since the dawn of the World of Meleet, had a very pleasant and beneficial relationship. A relationship that has been built on trust and honour. We've had, and still have, the possibility to gaze over the vast ocean and behold the misery created by aggression and feeble minds. We assume neither MIA, nor KISS, would want any of that on our prosperous continent. We also have arranged co-operation in science that are soon to pay off to our mutual benefit.
We regard the deal for Republic a grand finale of the above mentioned partnership and, thus, an end of previous made agreements. We would like to maintain a friendly relationship, but also to make way for each team to stand on their own when they decide to. Therefore, the proposed agreement sent by MIA will not be signed by KISS.
If MIA feels this stance makes the deal for Republic impossible to carry through, please notify us.

It seems our happy alliance is not as secure as we hoped...

so - if I'm reading this right, (and I like to think that I am) then we can trade for Republic, and all our deals – including the 10 turn peace notification are all off.

Meaning either team can sneak attack the other.
In light of the KISS military buildup, this is MOST disturbing.

Weep ye gods of peace – the time of friendship is in twilight.

No matter what - we should probably ditch the Pyramids in favor of a barracks in Athens, and hurry in getting a couple Hoplites for our border towns.


We have three main options that I see…

1) “Optimistic Trust” - Prepare adequate defenses, move to republic, and continue planning for an overseas war with one watchful eye on our border. The note does seem to suggest a hope for continued peace – but why reject signing your name to that hope?

2) “Fortress Empire” - Prepare strong defenses, switch to republic, and abandon all plans to invade overseas. We pursue stronger overseas relationships with Dnuts and TNT and hope that KISS will view them as easier targets for their war plans then our hoplite defended cities. We are free to help/trade with whoever KISS attacks as we see fit.

3) “You Asked For It” – Since this letter makes it clear that KISS wants to be free of binding peace, we give them the war they want… but on our terms. In the short term, we bulk up our Hoplite lines. We do NOT trade for Republic, and instead trade for Construction and try to get Feudalism ASAP and switch to that for our government. As soon as we get Feud, we start cranking out Med. Inf. And take the war to KISS.


Personally – I think option “Optimistic Trust” seems rather foolish. Almost asking to get sneak attacked. It’s appealing, because I think we’d all really like peace – but KISS obviously doesn’t feel the same way.

Therefore I lean towards “Fortress Empire” or “You Asked for it” – However I eagerly await hearing other perspectives!

I think we prepare for an all-out war - whether we attack or defend can be decided later, but "adequate defense" is clearly inadequate

They have not signed the deal ... so we do not have to trade Polytheism as this was not part of the initial deal for Republic ... and was popped after we sent the first of the correspondences which was discussing the next stage of the Alliance ... I think that that is fair ...
