Nextel Cup Series 2007

Too bad though. I'm a Gordon fan and yesterday all but sealed the deal for Johnson.

Is Johnson someone you could pull for, though?

I mean, I was a Dale Earnhardt fan for a long time, and became a Kevin Harvick fan... but if he can't win, I'd rather see one of his Childress teammates win it than anyone else.

Not hopeless but slim

He is only 20 positions out of First and has run top 10 during JJ winning streak, he runs top 5 Sunday and JJ has a troublesome car and runs in the @ 20's or he gets caught in someone elese wreck--which happens all to often ?

See how Penske got Hornish into the races next year? He transfered K. Buschs owner points to Hornishes car. Busch will have to actually qualify for the first 5 races next year--acourse he has his 6 past champ freebee's to fall back on.

My first thought was that was a dirty trick to pull...

...but the past champion's provisional is being abused anyway these days. Getting great drivers like Labonte, Elliott, and Jarrett to drive crappy cars after they either retired or should have seems just... not right. To be honest, I kinda hope Kurt needs that provisional and it keeps Jarrett out of a race. I used to like DJ, but the fact that he's just using a loophole in the rules to get David Reutimann for races isn't something I can really respect.

It's really sad that the rule is in place anyway; when I first started watching the series, Darrel Waltrip would get in every race as a past champion because he wasn't fast enough to qualify. It was years before I found out that ol' DW was one of the greatest drivers the sport had seen; I always thought he was some old guy who wasn't really anything great to begin with.

People these days will probably think the same of "Awesome" Bill Elliott, Terry Labonte, and Dale Jarrett...
