World Cup & European Racism

There is alot of racism present in football amongst the 'fans', which is one of the reaosns I got totally fed up of the game. I am certainlly worried about Neo-Nazi violence in the world cup, there are alot of racist hooligans out there and the world cup is what they've been waited for as they will congregate and cause violence. I also expect English fans to get into alot of trouble as they have a habbit of being very agressive and I have seen a few reports of Germna/Polish neo-nazi hooligans saying they particuarly want to fight english fans.

I did clarify that it was my experience. If it is any consolation, British people don't appear to have any serious bias and they are European.s

My experiences are that Germans, Serbs, Russian, Swiss and Austrians which are European citizens, are more racist than Americans. Their racism are more directed towards muslims and black people, whom they feel are inferior. This is in contrast to the Europeans on this forum who appears more open and freindly, I will not use the word "liberal" because some of the more liberal Europeans i know are the worst racist.
I cannot agree here. While there, of course, are racist here too. I don't think that their numbers are any bigger than in other places (like the US, for instance). And the majority here certainly doesn't believe themselves to be better than blacks and/or muslims, that's just a load of rubbish.
Of course, there are idiots here, that believe themselves to be better than "non-europeans", but they are a small minority, which get no symathy from the general population.

To be honest I hope the raccist thugs on one side and the ******** English fans , who think having a fight is the pinacle of their sad little existances, deserve to pummel each other into oblivion; if only they didn't end up in hospital and put a burden on the society they're in but died instead, then we could get the familly to pay for the funeral and claim a victory for Darwinism.

Seriously though you do always hear claims like this before the world or European cups but in past years this sort of fan violence has been very low key, hopefully the German Police can crush these incidents before they kick off, I'm hoping the only thing wounded in Germany is their pride when we beat them 4-2 in the final after extra time but this time on there own turf, just to rub it in :p :D

Of course there are British racists, some of the more "seemingly" racist posters in this forum are British and supporters of the BNP. England's football hooligans are famous throughout the world, even to the far east :D!

That's a source of shame not pride though, these people are scum basically.

That is the typical crap that pisses off English football supporters. I have watched several England and English teams overseas without any incidents. I have also watched domestic football in countries where I have worked (Germany, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Hungary...listed in no particular order) and I can tell you I have seen trouble that would make your hair stand on end.

If you want to watch trouble free, racist free football then watch a English Premier League game.

That article is racist and prejudiced against Europe :p

Of course there are racists in Europe and I'd say that in general, xenophobia is more common in Europe than in US, which is an immigrant country.

But from some reason, these fools tend to like football (soccer for those who dare think that certain stupid game played with crooked cone can be called "football" :p ) from some reason, maybe they like to ease their little complexes by shouting stupid slogans at people with different skin color.

This euro-bashing is nothing more than hysteria. Come here and see it for yourselves.

Your right scratcher it's a bit of an outdated idea that British fans are the greatest problem. It's a deserved reputation, we have had a problem but I'm not sure it's such a big problem any more because we do alot to keep the truly ******** ring leader types from travelling to football events these days, sure some human effluent get through customs, but I'd say we were no worse than any other nation for fan trouble.

We had several German citizens confirm that most people in Germany are racist, in this thread. So it sounds like there is more to it than that!

@ Sidhe, I watched a match in Turkey played by Fenerbache in Ankara as they were not allowed to play at home in Istanbul due to recent crowd violence.

Outside the ground the fans were running amok, mounted police were charging in all directions, missiles landing all around. I get to the entrance gate where I am searched and my cigarette lighter is taken from me and thrown into a box full of lighters, apparently to stop them being thrown at the players. So I kindly ask the policeman why my lighter is being taken and he asks me "Are you English?", to which I obviously reply "Yes"

He just laughed at me and said "You are probably worse than the Fenerbache fans!" What can you say to that!!

The Turkish fans are renowned for their raccist chanting, English fans are not, to compare our fans to those fans is clearly wrong but again we have a tainted reputation, it's unfair but what can we do?

^ Go to Germany, drink some beer, have some fun, watch some football and show the world that English fans can behave. That's what I am going to do, and I go at the end of next week.

I've been to games where an English side were playing a Welsh side and their was alot of racist chanting directed at Welsh people. I've also seen many a football fan chanting songs about Germany which could be considered racist and most likely would offend if sung in Germany. So alot of English fans are racists, they just don't think they are:rolleyes:

For way too many people in Europe, football is more than just a game. Sometimes it is a good thing, sometimes not.

But we're not alone - look at the South America with its football war and racist hysteria after certain lost game in Brazil ;)

Too right. You rarely see trouble at EPL games anymore because they have had a great deal of success in dealing with holliganism in general, since Racism is a form of hooliganism. The english game has to be one of the better games to watch for any family because the racism and general hooliganism has generally been put under great pressure from the authorities to clean up the game. Unfortunately there has been sweeping under the carpet some issues on continental Europe on thi issue and unfortunately they still have this problem that England has almmost eradicated.

But, to be fair and say things as they are, you must also say that the English fans who travel abroad with their national team have a very bad reputation, arguably worse than everybody else. It might be the fact that there aren't enforced the quite strict "anti-alcohol" regulations that apply in Premier League matches.

Still, to compare a match between national teams in the World Cup with the behaviour you see in some matches in most of the European national leagues is simply outrageous. For example, in the Lazio-Roma match (I randomly picked one of the too many "matches of hate") the color of the players of the opposite team plays absolutely no role - they are just considered THE ENEMY. And it is true that the English Premier League is miles ahead of the others on that aspect.

:hmm: That's the strangest thing I've read in a while.
1. Fascism is not necessarily the same thing as racism - there were prominent Italian fascist generals who were prominent in protecting Balkan Jews from the concentration camps.
2. The Lazio player, however, were almost certainly using the gesture (which was indeed adopted by the Fascists before the Nazis) with racist intent. Lazio and Roma, Rome's two teams, are the most racist in Europe and there have been inumerable incidents in that stadium.

You could not have chosen a worse example. Racist slurs are extremely common in matches in Rome.
