NFL Draft Thread

Dont be so sure Im taking Reggie Bush...Ive been watching every Texans game for 4 years, I know thier trouble spots...this is going to be a difficult decision :p

I watched one of their games this year and I know their trouble spots, every friggin starting spot!! In all seriousness though, they are probably better off taking someone like D'Brickashaw Ferguson to anchor the line. Reggie Bush is no Barry Sanders, like most backs he won't be able to be productive without someone to block for him.

Seeing how many times Carr has been sacked the last @3-4 years its a better pick but the fans and media would crucify them for not taking Bush.

I know, but maybe there GM will have some balls and do what's best for the franchise and not what's best for Jersey sales next year.

He should trade down for a better pick. A little surprising, but here's an idea:
Pick Number 1 to Jacksonville for Jacksonville 1 and 2 pick and a veteran OL.

Jacksonville is in the Texans division....is about 20 spots lower....and has no OLineman worth trading that far down for.

If the Texans pick Reggie Bush (or Leinart or Young), then they are idiots.
They need to trade down to somewhere between 4th-10th or so and pick Ferguson.
The O-line has been Houston's weakness for their entire existence. It's time to do something about it. If they pick Bush over Ferguson then both Bush and (more importantly) David Carr will get killed next season, which would make their problems even worse.

I realize that Reggie Bush is a very special talent, but the Texans need to look at their weaknesses first, and address those. Sure, the media and the fans are going to crucify them for it (most sportswriters are idiots that write along the lines of popular (fan) thinking anyway), but in the end they'll be better off.

Y'all are going under the assumption that the Texans have the option to trade down and get value for it. They might not. They might have to use the #1 pick, and yes, it should probably be Reggie Bush in that case.

See, Bush will help with Carr's protection. The Texans will essentially be running the Thunder and Lightning of USC with Bush and Davis in the backfield. This fear of the run will reduce blitzing and penetration and just maybe save David Carr. Vince Young, on the other hand, doesn't help the team period. 1, he's not needed, and 2, he's not Kubiak's kind of QB.

Yes, the Texans may be better served trading down to 4 or 5 and getting a couple extra picks along with Ferguson. But it takes two to tango.

Then I suggest that the Texans GM puts in a call to the Jets. They're drafting at number 4 and Curtis Martin is getting older (and he was injured last year), so they could use a running back. Considering their passing game, they'd better have a good RB, otherwise they'll have no offense two years in a row.

Or the 49ers. 6th or 7th pick IIRC. They desperately need a good RB, otherwise Alex Smith's next season might look a lot like what we saw from David Carr this year.

Plenty of options. But, as you said, it takes two to make a deal. :)

The Texans could still draft Bush, but if they do, it would almost be required of them to spend their 2nd rounder on the best available tackle. But no matter what they do, they still won't be good next year. There are just WAY too many holes.

RedFusion...Ill give you 4 words. 2004...San Diego...Chargers. Everyone said they would be lucky to finish 3-13. What did they do? Only go 12-4, and who knows what they could do with thier talent next year (and a less brutal schedule).

Im not saying the Texans are going to do it, but as long as you have some pieces...sometimes things just fall in place for you.

btw, Davis and Bush would be a lightning and lightning combo ;)

I agree that the Texans have too many pressing needs to go for a luxury like Bush. Davis is much more servicable than most of their starters.

There is a huge difference between the 2004 chargers and the current Texans...namely the latter actually had some talent! You're analogy would work if you were comparing the Chargers to a team like Green Bay or Oakland where at least they have stars that they can work with going into next year, but the texans, nothing. They have a serviceable back, a bad qb, no TE, but most importantly, no Offensive Line!! The Chargers actually had something too work with, they had one of the best backs in football in Tomlinson, the best Fullback, the best TE, and serviceable wideouts. But more importantly they had talent on the O-Line. They also had a lot better of a qb then they realized.

No no no no, you cant analyze it like that. NOBODY though Brees could get it done. NOBODY thought the Oline was any good. Thier wideouts were considered barely mediocre.

And the Texans do have talent. If you watched David Carr, you would realize he is the ultimate victim of the teams sucky Oline. He has the "tools" as they say. Andre Johnson, Jabar Gaffney are better than anything the Chargers had then or have now actually...

On defense, Dunta Robinson, Robaire Smith, Jason Babin, and a few other role players are about it. I dont know what they were thinking trading for Phillip Buchanon, he has regressed worse than any defensive player Ive seen recently and it was pretty obvious to anyone that had watched a Raiders game. He was demoted to slot after Capers realized "OMG this guy suxorz"

The things you find whilst bored one lunchtime....

Both the 49ers and the Giants have been chosen - so both the teams I'd have picked are unavailable.

Besides we don't get much in the way of College Football coverage over here - so whilst I could work out what some NFL teams badly need, I wouldn't have a clue about the players to fill the gaps.

FWIW... the 49ers need a defence, their O just needs confidence. So do the Giants, but more than that they need a decent QB coach!

The Niners offense has no vertical threat! Rashuan Woods has not progressed at all, he barely has any catches in 2 years. Lloyd would be a nice number 2, Arnaz Battle is an ok number 3...Eric Johnson is a top 10 catching tight end, but thats about it.

Im a believer in Alex Smith though, and Mike Nolan for that matter.

We didn't get many 49ers games over here - I think only the Philly thrashing got shown - so I can only really go on the NFL.com play charts I saw; and I'd have to agree with you. They were okay on the ground - getting the 3 yards per carry on the first two downs, fine, then it all kinda broke down.

Alright so we are going to start round one of the draft on Saturday, so everyone be ready. Also, we need to assign the remaining teams since it looks like everyone who wants to do this has joined.
Here's a quick reminder of the teams remaining:
Buffalo Bills
Baltimore Ravens
Indianapolis Colts
Kansas City Chiefs --Olorin0222 1st
Denver Broncos
San Diego Chargers
Minnesota Vikings
Carolina Panthers --RedFusion 2nd
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Atlanta Falcons --Malba 2nd
Seattle Seahawks --AlCosta15 2nd
St. Louis Rams

I guess I'll take the Panthers as my second team. If Fetus or Own still want to do this feel free to take any of the teams listed above as your primary, even if they are taken as a 2nd.

I see the new thread is up. I'll send a PM out tonight telling people they have 1 week to until the draft.

Awesome, that was the next thing to do on the list. Hopefully this will run smoothly.
