Nightmare Neighbors

I vote French.

They are just always untrustworthy. Things are going good with trade and then BLAMMO! they are invading your turf. They can be totaly polite and then suddenly they are furious. I hate those pink bastiches..hate'em. Kill'em all!

f*cking aztecs are my nightmare.

* they don´t care about treaties.
* you can´t live in peace with 'em.
* they don´t care about you culture.
* they destroy my entire infrastructure.
* and they move endlessly and someone at Firaxis decided that i have to watch all those movements...

In the three games I've played, the French have backstabbed me every single time! It seems I get that lesbian looking beeatch as my neighbor every game. She will get nothing from me from now on, except a swift kick in the rear!

The Zulus suck. Of course, if they don't conquer a lot of land in the ancient age, they will probably be impotent for the rest of the game. They seem to neglect everything else to have a huge army of Impi to send to their deaths against riflemen.

Just played a game with the Zulu as my direct neighbors, and the Chinese beyond them. Argh. Both kept sending wave after wave
of settlers, and I didn't have a change to kill all of them.

The expansionistic civs get my vote for being the most annoying land-grabbers... and the Romans, despite not being expansionistic, act like they should be.

Shaka is very, very untrustworthy. In every game I've played against the Zulus, he backstabs me, even when it's idiotic of him to do so (I had riflemen, with 2 in all the cities near the borders, was rolling over his little new cities with 1 pop, and he sends out a bunch of Impies. Impies vs. riflemen LOSE!)

Hrm... I haven't seen that Gandhi is that much trouble in Civ 3 yet... playing the Aztecs, I rolled over him with a 'domination' victory in short order, grabbing the French cities on the way. Joan was nice enough to crush 3 of her opponents very, very early, then get destroyed by my longbowmen. :D

What really sucks about the Zulus is the Impi. Even when you attack them with a tank, they will almost always damage it. I thought they had a 1 defence rating. Maybe Firaxis added them just to get on peoples nerves.

Unfortunately impi are upgraded spearmen (def 2) with a move of 2. Like the cruddy Jag warrior, they always move away and always seem to damage units that are much better than them. Personally speaking, I burn the Zulu and the Aztecs to the ground in every game. One of my favorite things to do---if the situation is right is to attack both and then give the ones captured cities to the other. Then I get to watch them try to kill me and each other at the same time. They cannot get along with anyone, even when their civs depend on it!

My only problem with the Zulu's was they kept giving me their cities. Zulus are weak culturally, build a temple or two in cities near to them and they're a pushover.

French--love to populate my empire for me

Zulu--like fortifying unites right outside my cities and populating my empire for me

English--they really love to populate my empire for me and have the most aggressive settlers in the world (they have since civ 2)

Russians--ALWAYS get a better starting position than I do on random maps

I. Hate. The. French. I hate them with a passion. Next to the french, I've found the Indians to be the most annoying.

I don't have much experience of the zulus in civ3 yet until just recently when they (of course) backstabbed me. I always thought the point of backstabbing is to gain some advantage from the surprise element and do enough damage to your opponent to leave him crippled for the rest of the war.

The zulus obviously don't agree. Their little impies which they seem to keep building no matter what new technology is available died in masses. As eyrei said, beyond the ancient age they are not much of a threat.

The Germans are real bastards when im not playing them. They will constantly demand stuff, and every single time you turn them down, they will attack you! They go berzerk at war time. The zulus are also real pains because they not only attack you all the freaking time, they will expand even more than other civs!
Damn them. :o :( [punch]

:tank: :tank: :tank: Perhaps there is a less diplomatic approach.

Hmmm, in the 4 games ive played the only neighbour who really put up a fight was the persians. All on regent level though so I'm sure there are some much tougher opponents in the higher levels. Those damn immortals. They rock when you are the persians though.

the most aggressive civs so far were Persia and Montezumaland
the most annoying - Russia and China

Zulu.. hmm.. i once had them next to me, but they didn't care about me, i had never had war with them..

and the most friendly civs in my games were France, India and Rome

I hate the English! They are always stabbing me in the back. I finally destroyed them. That has happened in both of my major games.

The French just kind of sit there and so I don't like them because the expand behind my borders.

The Russians expand really quick. Just like roaches.

I have been the Germans both times so I usually get stuck near these 3 stooges. :)

The Germans get my vote. In every game I've played, they've attacked me (actually, in one it was the result of a MPP, but otherwise he started it). Take last night, for example. I'm trying out the Japanese. Early in the game (before I even knew where he was) Bismarck demanded some tech from me. "No" says I. "War" says he. "Help out" says he to Queen Elizabeth. She does. Blah. This ended up being a good thing, as I wiped out my neighbors, the English, and got a peace treaty out of Bismarck. Then France attacked me. Luckily, I had Samurai and I'm kinda friendly with the Chinese (who have HORDES of Riders).

Anyway, Bismarck is a nasty, demanding SOB. Queen Elizabeth is a manipulative, backstabbing female dog. Shaka is aggressive, but usually weak. Joan... hasn't given me as much trouble (except for last night, and she paid dearly for it) as some of you have mentioned - and I can't take anyone seriously if they're pink.

I think the romans are the biggest bastards they never do that well but they are really good at making war with people. The first thing they do is make alliances with all your neighbors and then they send their hordes over. In my game i barely survived but 2 other civilizatons did not. Later however I took and razed many of their cities they finally humbled out to me when i captured rome and then sold it back for a huge economy crippling deal. :)

The English. They are constantly expanding into my territory, can't leave any gaps at all. Elizabeth is a cow too.
The Aztecs. An intense hatred of them since their Jaguar Warriors ruined my first few games.
The Zulus. Seem to breed like rabbits and like to fight more than a steroid munching jarhead.

I'm gonna have to agree with kittenOFchaos on the whole Ghandi thing. In several of my games he is the most annoying one of all of them. He always seems to hold the worst grudge against me. (I had to get oil somehow) :D

Contrary to most of the posts so far, i've had good luck with manipulating the Zulus against my enemies and I generally get along with Shaka.
