Here is the 3rd installment of Narz's Monthly Civ Challange. Get started now while you're waiting for GOTM 19. I'm pleased to say that the turnout for the second NMCC was pretty strong so I'm looking forward to even more submissions this time around. As usual this start is on one of my custom maps (not one available for download of course) but its gonna be a little tougher this game. Here are the Specs :

7 Civilizations, Emperor, Small (Flat) Map, Barbarian level = Restless Tribes. Here's the start position :

Your saved games (1AD, 1000AD and finish) are due August 31st. Enjoy!

Finnaly a flat map.
I prefer this option and very much dislike the go to bug when you try to crosss the internail dateline.

I just downloaded it and examined the file. I found it was corrupted with extraneous stuff, and I repaired it & test loaded it. The fixed file is now zipped (for data integrity) and attached to this post.

The game is saved in MGE format, which means you are out of luck if you want to play it in Classic (2.42). You need MGE or ToT to load and play it.

:)

The attached file is 4KB....

The same thing happened last time. The CFC download didn't work butthe Narcity one did so I redirected a few people to your site last month. I thought you would have seen the posts, sorry....

Yeah, I remember that anarchy. I just don't know why it doesn't work for some people on CFC. Oh well. To everyone : try D/Ling here, if it doesn't work, try the site, if it does work, let me know so I know that at least it works of for some people. Thanks.

I want to make sure that one is not "corrupted" as well.
The corruption is 128 bytes that preceed the standard Civ2 header information in the .SAV. The .SAV on your website is just fine... I just checked it.

All you need to do is edit your above post and either delete the corrupt file, or just re-upload with a copy of the good .SAV that is on your own website. :)

PS, You should create your .SAVs in 2.42 format, or else some people will not be able to play them. All versions of Civ 2 can use 2.42 files, but 2.42 & 2.62 cannot read MGE files. You cannot convert from MGE to 2.42, so NMCC3 is stuck in MGE-only format. You might want to post a note to let people know they need MGE, otherwise they will try and run it and get an error if they have 2.42 or 2.62  .

Okay, im taking a break from my GOTM game so I started the NMCC. There is a lot of room so i EXPAAAANDED a lot. Though you are a bit of a B**stard Narz cause some of my cities are VERY far away from any water so irrigation is going to be hard......

The Japanese are nearly gone but the Fench have built a city right in the middle of my empire!!

Heh heh, sorry about the lack of rivers Anarchy, I guess I never make irragation a #1 priority, just build roads and conquer, thats my motto, massive irragation comes with Engineers in my book. Good luck! How is everyone else doing?

Well the Americans have 1 city left and I have the Japanese rebirth settler corned and that is all that stands in my way at 1860AD.

I built my Greeks up till they covered half the continent (dealt with the Japs) and sent LOTS of Musketeers West to take out France. Once I had done this I waited for Metallurgy and rebuilt my army and headed North and attacked the Sioux (who had dealt with the Aztecs). I started at the west of the Sioux island but stopped wen I captured Tenochtitlan. This city had about 20shields so I waited while it pumped out some more cannons. I then swept east and destroyed the Sioux.

I then pulled off a brilliant piece of logistics ;) Within 3 turns I had moved most of my army from the Sioux lands and France to the far East of the map where my newly built Artillery and Cavalry soon made light work of the Romans, who had been bribing some of my cities. Anyway they didn't last long and neither did the Yanks, tucked away down there.

I'm going to hold out for a few turns to build some more wonders and increase my score before I kill the Babylonians. Job Done!

True to my name, I'm operating slowly. I decided to postpone my first elimination of a civ until after 1750 -- no need to refind the upstarts. (I'm in the 1800's -- have single ownership of my rock & am about to truly visit off shore.)

It is indeed a dry world -- am thinking of reading the next installment of Dune for inspiration.

Results are out. Low turnout this month but I have faith that September's installment will draw record crowds.

It was a tight race this month. But in the end, Old n' Slow edged out NRK, by a 12 point margin...

#1 Old n' Slow : 155.86
#2 AnarchyWrksBest : 143.2

BTW, (warning spoiler!), September's NMCC map is much less dry!

Thanks NARZ -- always wanted to try a flat map & see the consequences. Having some pressure also improves the play. I’m also looking forward to this month’s game. :goodjob:

This month's game ought to have a fair amount of pressure, being that each AI starts with one wonder. Of course they're still just the AI :D but they will be more of a challange. Thanks for playing guys! Here's the link to the next installment :
