No beaker overflow in Civ5?

I think in practice production does spill over, but the UI doesn't show it.

Quite bizarre but good to know.

Overflow is one of the most important ways to prevent excessive and annoying micromanagement. The thing is that if you want to play really well, you have to micro this stuff - a requirement which is gone with overflow.

Why would scientific progress on, say, a combustion engine "spill over" and let you discover free speech more quickly? If they bring back an overflow system, I think it should only be between very closely related techs (like gunpowder and rifling)

...

If you have 200 research points, take it as research hours. Your scientists are able to invest 200 hours/turn in research. If you only need 5 to finish a tech, then the rest will go to whatever tech you want.

It certainly doesn't overflow in my games and it is really easy to see. When you have the big research icon up you can mouse over and see how many beakers into the tech you are. After one turn you are always however many beakers you produce inot that tech.

You can also use this to see if you are close to getting the tech a turn quicker and move stuff around to get it.

I hadn't even noticed this! Silly oversight I guess. I don't want to do silly micro!

Techs should cost more as well. I seem to rip through techs ATM. Maybe its because I'm playing standard speed and I'm used to epic.

Argh this is really busting my balls now that I'm aware of it.

Even on epic speed I'm having to throttle science heavily to avoid wastage. The difference between 7 turns for flight and 6 turns is such a large amount of BPT, where my max beakers is just below 6 turns, and I have to go to every single one of my friggin cities to re-assign my scientists to optimize for 7 turns.

Am I stressing too much over this? Maybe I should just let the scientists run their waste beakers because Great Scientists are so much better than the other GPs ><

And I thought lowering the science slider when a tech got to 1 turn in Civ3 was annoying.
