ok ive never bothered to watch the whole opening movie i could care less

why tf cant i just escape out of it? i have to sit hammering at the esc key for 30 seconds every time i start the game.... DUDE that is the LAME

It really should just show a progress bar somewhere. A best practice for user interfaces...

Oh, I should add: if nearly everyone thinks it's a bug on first glance, that pretty much makes it a bug. Or at least, there's something wrong with it.

If you simply wish to not have the movie display while the game is loading, you can go into:

My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\UserSettings.ini

and set:

SkipIntroVideo = 1

I think it's the most boring intro yet. At least you can skip after a little while, so you don't have to suffer through the whole thing.

The skipping itself also doesn't look quite reassuring - at least on my machine the video will slow down with stuttering sound before it vanishes.

There should be an option to deactivate it and showing a progress bar instead.

This was happening with demo too. I watched it regularly for first time and second time I pressed enter, space, esc and the movie starts and goes on until that dude, son of that old man, comes in. Is this happening to you too? I mean, I don't want to look it every time I open the game:mischief:.

Yes, happens with me too. It won't let me skip until just before it pans down the back of the guy's head to the fire. Very annoying.

I've heard you can edit some ini file to completely bypass the intro movie, can anyone advise where the ini file is please?

The movie is the loading screen. Pressing esc once is enough to cancel it, but it won't stop until the game is loaded. If you disable the movie, you just get a black screen instead. If you want to disable it, search the civ 5 forum for "intro movie" and there's about 10+ posts about how to do it.

Although is known that you cannot skip the movie because the loading is in progress, wouldn't be a wiser, and more mature decision, if there was a screen that would actually said: "Loading", instead of having to see the movie over and over?

It's hard to appreciate something that you start to see way too often.

really forcing you to watch the intro everytime you start the game, how amateurish is that.

I hate it too. You have finally some time to play civ 5 and you have to look how that guy's coming in saying "Yes father"!!!

As someone previously mentioned, it seems to be locked up until the point where the son (younger male) enters, I find right clicking after that cuts through nicely.

It may not be a bug, but it is annoying as hell, and sure seemed like a bug until I read this thread.

When hitting Escape, it should switch to a loading bar. This lets the user know, hey were not sucking up resources playing this movie, full speed ahead on loading the game.

I think it may have to do with your computer specs too, when I hit ESC (or Return or space bar) I skip the movie almost immediately, as soon as the camera begins to pan down (maybe 1 or 2 seconds).

Indeed. Use Enter (or Alt-Enter). ;)

The movie was nicely done, but I only need to watch it once. I'd prefer the game to get to the menu as soon as it can and then load from there. Unresponsive intro is a good way to put off players psychologically.

I think the thing that concerns me most is how much money they would have spent on that intro that adds nothing to the game.
