no coal

if you have a save can you post it?

"hahaha, someone plays with their dad? hahah. awesome."

Yea, its one of the few things we can do together. HEs like 54 and im 17. He plays his game and i play mine. We ocassinal compare stratigies and talk about how our conquest goes. He is the type of guy that say every square must have

1. Rail road.
2. Irrigation or mine or fortress or radard tower ect ect.
3. A military unit controlled by him
He must control every pices of the map cut down every forest and railroad it all. Me, i just burn it as i go.

Vanilla Civ, 1.07.
I remember playing that. Then I quit until a decent patch arrived. You should patch to 1.29. That will give you a pretty good game.
Better yet, patch to 1.29, then get conquests and patch it to 1.15b :)

Actually, I think you've got a fun game. Nobody able to railroad makes countries very hard to defend as you can't move defenders around all your cities. This will get very interesting with high speed maritime transportation and also paras. When invading, suddenly building airfields is going to be crucial.

There is also no point in building hospitals as 20+ cities are out of the question, so you might as well space your cities OxxxO apart or even OxxO and limit their growth to 6 and 12. In fact, you may find that many of your larger cities are going to be coastal - once you've given them harbors. So do add more cities in your centre.

You probably do not want to be in Democracy, because you can't get the population bonus and you are going to need lots military to defend your cities - so this looks like Communism and / or Republic.

What population bonus?

THe first game I bought on my own was AOE 2. My dad played it a bit. Now, if I get a new strategy game, I have to compare it to AOK for him to get it.

But, man, that sucks not having anyt coal. But I agree with pelmeister. That would be a fun game.

Click in the city view on whichever terrain square you want that specialist to work. Its that simple.

no I meen if you make a specialist then want to change it back to a normal person. for instance I once got a enemy city and it had a population of 1, and it was an entertianer. thus, the city was starving. I couldent find a way to make the entertainer into a normal person that makes food+money+shields.

Just click on the square you want them to work on.

I think we're changing the subject. Well, just keep the entertainer. Build a road so the city can grow. What I do when I get unhappy people is turn them into specialists.

Just had to see, and there is coal, it just isn't on your continent, and the English can't see it yet to trade. Save the game again as "Multi.sav" and reload to see the whole map, then look under the orange around Coventry and St. Petersburg, plenty of coal there.

Alan

oh... opps! well, i guess i will finish my game then. thanks.

Coal can be hard to see sometimes. I good way to make positive you don't have any in your territory is to hit ctrl - shift - m. everything on the map will disappear. Look for the coal deposites, the hit ctrl - shift - m again, and everything will reappear. Then go get you coal or steal somebody elses. lol

I offered: ALL my gold (6000 gold), ALL my techs (10 techs), ALL my cities (30?), ALL my resourses to the russians for a minor outpost city that had coal and the russians didn't expcet! how stupid can the computer be!

Well, assuming you're still playing a version where you CAN still buy AI cities, I'm almost positive that AI's place an extremely high value on cities w/resources, to the point where even in peace negotiations in a disastrous war where they lost 5-10 cities, they will steadfastly refuse to give up any cities w/strategic resources in them. If this is the case, there probably isn't a whole lot you can do to change their mind about it, short of going to war and taking the city for yourself.
