I know it is only cosmetic but I loved the day night cycle in Civ 6 so much that I cannot play without it anymore.

Especially in modern era with all the skyscrapers, Golden Gate, wonders etc. It was so beautiful so see all the lights and the night atmosphere.

The Eiffel tower at night was beautiful.

I think missing this feature in Civ 7 would remove a lot of the atmosphere.

I am worried since I haven't seen anything that confirms its presence yet in the footage shown

That's a shame. In Civ 6 while I dont usually play with the cycle on automatic, I like to manually change the time of day as I go through each era. Morning in Ancient to finally night in the Future era.

Its also useful for taking good looking screenshots by using the scroll wheel to move the sun to get the perfect shadows/reflection on water.

I think it's much too early to panic. It was a popular feature and one that is very easy to implement; I'd be very surprised if it did not return. As an added note, we've definitely seen scenes with different lighting. While one could interpret that as cinematic, I think it's more parsimonious to believe that the day/night lighting is still with us.

The waterfall natural wonder they showed has a rainbow appear and disappear as you scan by it, just as it would naturally, so they do have nuanced lighting effects. 7:47.
