NO MANUAL! Is this a Canada thing?

Well, I'm not going to kid myself into thinking I will return the game, but yeah, I was extrememly disappointed to discover I had spent $60 CAD and didn't even get a written manual. Seems very cheap to me, not very professional at all. It appears they have done this in markets they consider "bilingual".

Picked mine up in Ottawa @ BestBuy

I'm getting the nice collector's edition version of Age of Empires III instead. I think I'll get more out of it, and better looking packaging with a printed manual to boot.

Don't support 2K and their ridiculous corner cutting tactics. You paid a considerable amount of money for the game - the least you could expect is decent packaging with required documentation to come standard.

So you by a game just for the packing/extra stuff it comes with? Sure having a manual would be nice, but gettign a different game just for manual reasons?!

A game like Civ NEEDS a manual. You need that info at your fingertips when you're making decisions on what to research or what to build. Without the manual, I'd argue that Civ IV is almost unplayable. It doesn't matter how good the game is, it should have a printed manual.

Also, the AoE gameplay has always been fun, I'm sure AoE3 will be just as good. the packaging isn't the only deciding factor.

Did anybody who got the manual but it at future Shop/Best Buy. Form what i have seen on this and other forums, all copies from Futureshop or Best Buy didnt get a manual.

I just bought the game at Future Shop in BC and got a lousy disc instead of the printed manual. I'm pissed, to put it lightly. They don't accept returns for open software either.

well, Futureshop didn't accept my return... so I decided to play the game... and you know what - it's pretty fun :)

I'm still pissed off and I want my manual though! They shouldn't be allowed to get away with this.

It is probably due to the French Canadian laws, but this is anyway a completly lame excuse. Every game i have bought in Montreal have been provided with at least a printed manual in one langage, and sometimes a PDF in the other langage. FutureShop sells english-games only all the time in Montreal, as does EB Games, etc. So there is NO excuse for T2K to not provide at least ONE manual, and i don't care if it is in French or English, it would have been better than nothing.

I am waiting for their answer to my email.

Have you received a response to your email yet? I'm still waiting for a reply to mine, but I have the sinking feeling it's been ignored.

Moderator Action: I am querying with Firaxis whether a PDF manual is allowed, and if it is, we will post an official link to it. I strongly suspect they will claim that it is piracy, however you can wait a few days for the response.

In the interim, we consider it piracy, and we have zero tolerance for it. We will ban anyone who PMs, offers to PM or links to a version of the manual.

General warning.

WTH, I just got a manual in the mail from Toronto, Canada and I don't even own the game!

 :crazyeye:  :crazyeye:

Why the hell did they send you a copy of the manual? Did you ask for one? How did they know your address otherwise?

I preordered and got a manual. Yesterday I went into a Best Buy to pick up a copy of the game for my niece. Opened it at the till after paying for it. No manual. I asked for and received a refund on the spot.
