No more goody huts.

Wow, that is lucky. I've never got a settler be4.......some tech, and a LOT of warriors.........and not all of those are friendly......

No, you can't get workers or settlers from the goody huts
as you move up in difficulty. But, I do like huts. Scouts
unlike warriors will never pop barbarians from huts and I like the
extra layer of depth at the beginning of the game. It is
not realistic, but it is fun.

I like to play with barbarians off. If there are unknown lands like a terra map I'll rush to optics to have a first look at the new world. On several occasoins my scout has popped Astronomy from a goody hut which of course gave me an incredible advantage in settling key sites and obtaining great resources.

Goody huts are for real; just as surely as the flying spagetti monster has tentacles. :p

I hate the maps given by goody huts. They're always full of holes, so you have to explore that area anyway to make sure you don't miss anything. Of course sometimes you get a map of the ocean or, even worse, an area that you've already explored:mad:

Yeah...I wondered once how a primitive tribe got a map of nothing but deep ocean...I guess they had Optics and didn't want to share.

I should have given them a good beat down. Unfortunately they snuck away like ninjas after giving me that sorry excuse of a map.

WTH...

wait, I'm supposed to make a meaningful post.

The maps are probably the most pointless goody-hut gift thingys. I remember in one game though where I kept getting techs from the huts (noble game). That was fun.

My Goody hut popping follows a pattern. Those civilizations that I begin that have decided to settle on Tundra, Ice, and Desert/Hills have loads of these goody huts around them. The Civs of mine that are surrounded by tons and tons of resources and beautiful bountiful terrain as far as the eye can see.....they don't believe in goody huts.

When I hear that people have gotten Astronomy from these things, I just crack up laughing. "You enter an ancient village. The Elder attempts to communicate with you in his long forgotten dialect. He takes you out behind their tents and camp fire and shows you his 50" reflecting telescope.....

Wait, are you saying the whole "goody hut" concept is not realistic? Because I think it is, really. History is full of examples of large cultures coming upon smaller ones and benefitting in some way from the experience -- either by coming into contact with some new technology, or recruiting a military unit from the tribe, or by enslaving them wholesale, effectively turning them into workers.
I think what's unrealistic is that the goody hut "payout" is nerfed as you move up in difficulty. It doesn't make sense to me historically, but I guess it's good for game balance. An Emperor-level player could leverage an early tech hut-pop quite effectively. Scarily effectively, in fact.

Does anyone see goody huts as important enough to choose a civilization at least partially due to it starting with hunting; therefore a scout? Personally I rarely play a civ that starts with hunting.

The advanced techs that come from goody huts were of course provided to them from alien visitors that have long since left. I'd thought that so obvious that I shouldn't have to mention it but apparently some gamers are American and one can only expect some much from them.

Goody huts are fun, but not something to be relied on. I don't make a special effort to get Hunting just to go hut hunting.

They don't seem easily exploitable the way they were in earlier games, either.

If you're really worred that there are no goody huts on your map you could always open worldbuilder and look, just to be sure.

I said there ARN'T any goody huts.

Yep, I like how those natives keep giving me maps showing thousand miles away from the coast or polar ice caps when optics or astronomy is two thousand years away from being discovered. Oh, those maps always leave tons of unknown spots so you still have to send your scout there.

Just hope this is fixed in BtS.

Could it be that you´re at a point in the game where all the goody huts have already been discovered by the other Civs?
Load the Initial Save (4000 B.C.), go into worldbuilder and look at the huts in all their glory.
There is no reason why everyone else would have huts and you don´t.
