Hi all, im looking for some help advice. During my last two games ive come up against the strangest thing. There were no villages that had the expert sugar planter thus meaning i could not produce rum in any sufficent qty's. Is this a known bug? Im sure i searched every inch of the map and could not find a single village with a sugar planter. No villages had been raized and the settings for the game had not been changed?

Can anyone advise me?

Marsh terrain is less common than the other varieties, and thus native villagers work that terrain less often. (The type of unit trained in a village depends on the terrain it is working.) I frequently play on small sized maps (my laptop is old) and no sugar planters is a frequent problem.

Converted natives are good in a pinch. You can also cheat with the world builder if you want, either by changing the type of unit trained in a village, or swapping one of your other types of colonists with a sugar planter, or simply by giving yourself a free sugar planter. But I prefer using converted natives.

Hi, thanks for that. It seems a bit silly to not ensure at least one village is available for every resource expert. I had a really close battle in my last game and ran out of time with only 10 or so kings units left to defeat, the anount of money i lost because of low production definately cost me the game! Not sure how to work the builder and i hate "cheating" but in this incedence i can justify it!

Out of interest whats the best number of cities on a standard map? i tend to go for 5 ( 3 for trade and one each for horses/pop growth and guns. )

Any one know how you specify the type of expert in a village? Ive been through the world builder and got the hang of it but cant find where you do that bit.

Any ideas?

Delete the village and place a new village under the control of that tribe in the same spot. Repeat until you get the villager you want. Unfortunately cheating has a big drawback: once you win you don't feel like you really deserved the win.

If you want to get a better chance of finding a sugar planter, you could try playing on a larger map size if your computer can handle it.
