No Treasure for Pirates

But I urge you to consider that to this point we have found several bugs that we could live with but would be much better to fix. We also have up to now to figure out a good corse to take with France England and Spain and with the unhappiness factor England must now live with I feel we can do so much better.

As to the unhappiness factor: I can simply sell the slave markets again... It just means I have wasted 10 shields (and a bit of cash, where I cash-rushed them), but no big deal.

Your other point about the bugs we found, however, is quite valid. But still I'm in favor of continuing, because of the following: true, we already found 2-3 glitches worth fixing, but I'm pretty sure, as we move along the tech tree, we will find more of them... :D What do we do then? Restart once again? I would say, we play this one through to the bitter end (after all, we had been well aware of the fact that this scenario isn't perfect, when we started the game...) I think it is lots of fun, despite the imperfections (or maybe even because of them?! It means we will often have to change the strategy, adopt to new situations, throw over board concepts that didn't work out and try other ones - like the slave markets that didn't work out as I expected... :mischief:)

And while we play along, we keep a list of things we want to change for the next game! (Yes, once this is finished, I'm all for playing it a second time, e.g. as Spain.) I'm starting a separate thread for this now.

Great idea to make that thread, I didn't post there so you could use the second post as well, maybe reserve it now so readers need not go further into the thread to get everything discussed

Ok, I reserved the first 4 posts for the results, the thread is now "open for customers"... :)
Just add your own findings and you opinions about the modifications we might discuss.

OK, I've been playing this as the Dutch in order to identify bugs and there's a whole bloody lot. Tomorrow I'll try and make sense of what's been going on in the PBEM game and send the savegame on to Lanzelot (that filthy Anglais).

I'm using the .biq from this thread's OP.

So, report: Marketplace at Cutthroat Island destroyed by la France. No other casualties.

La France is now open for diplomatique proposals.

We have made peace with ze Undead Pirates (AI); their survival is exchanged for 132 gold upfront and 4 per turn. Otherwise, we 'ave nothing to report.

T011, Dec.1656:

Mortars continue to bombard the Undead at the Slave Coast. All are redlined now.

At Cutthroat Island the English ships keep the recovering Undead under fire as well, hitting a pirate ship and two pirates.

Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell is very pleased with his Governour of New England, as Sir Bertrum Wilberforce personally delivers the first shipload of fine and valuable Cotton to Plymouth!

King of Spain is privileged to offer to his cousin, King of France, agreement on joint action against pirate menace which endangers trade routes and prosperity of civilized world.

We can also make certain proposals regarding consolidation of our colonial possessions if King of France is interested in such dealings.

Le Roi de France would be inclined to hear the illustrious Majesty of l'Espagne's proposals in detail.

Captain Mad Jack asks the Governor of Mexico for a small contribution to our ship's expenses (rum, gunpowder, rum, sails and rum). In other words: for a small obolus, we will protect the Spanish ships and settlements. How about 50g every once in a while?

I have the turn and I can't wait to play it this evening, but for now I'd like to make a comment.
Arrrr. You lads Arrr doing exactly what I hoped you would do, I mean discussing diplomacy and entertaining bit here and there. 3 Cheers for this game!

Also, His Illustrious Majesty would like to intimate to the Habsburgs in Madrid that, of course, the development of piracy is tres deplorable a thing and that financing the activities of such lowlifes. It is to be hoped that their assistance be withheld from these culprits, and that the harbours occupied by such unruly people be transferred to a more civilised authority, such as, for example, that of le Roi d' France himself.

Les Buccaniers, if zey should ever be so happy as to conform to expectations and bring us ze head of an enemy king and captured treasure, might be allowed to exist.
