No way to reveal maps in Civilization 3?

I'm shocked! I've read that Firaxis disabled the cheat, so now there is no other way to reveal the map? I have tried the only supposedly-working save-game editor and it fails to start.

Games like StarCraft have a simple cheat by typing the code as a chat message and you can see everything, why is Civ 3 an exception? If I can't see the entire map without the ******** Fog-Of-War, then I'm just going to delete Civ3 from my disk and never invest a penny into Firaxis.

You only play games where you can cheat?

If you want to see the whole map play in the DEBUG mode. You have to edit a file in the editor to do it, but it does remove all FoW.

I like playing video games with cheats as much as I like not being blinded and intentionally handicapped. Thanks for the help!

As Yoda Power posted, the DEBUG mode would be the best for you, as it is a kind of cheat mode for Civ 3 (with some other cheating options, too).

Other possibilities for revealing the map are to tickle the box "Reveal Entire Map" in the scenario properties or to tickle the "Reveal map" box for an early tech, when opening a biq with the editor. In each case you must open the biq with the editor and create a new biq with these options.

Personally, I prefer to explore the map, except say in the WW2 scenario where you know where the land and islands are.

DEBUG mode does slow the game down a bit.

Debug mode is worse as you will have to watch every move of every unit on the map.

Like I said, it slows the game down. I only use it if I am running a test with one other civilization. Probably the easiest is set one of your starting Techs to Reveal Map.

You can disable viewing AI moves under Preferences in the Menu.

If you are going to use either Reveal Map or Debug, why not see the AI moves? If you are not going to do that, why bother with the Debug? When I use Debug, I want to see what the AI is doing, not simply see the map.

You can still see what they are doing. Just not one unit at the time.

Where can I disable AI moves? Anyway, Debug mode is quite slow, buggy, and it overloads my CPU. I wish there were a better alternative.

Go to Preferences in the Game Menu and look for the box that says Animate AI Moves. If you are having problems with Debug, then I would recommend Reveal Map without having the AI moves animated.

Umm...It is possible to trade Maps with other civs.
