Our empire is growing very nicely now and getting superhighways in the big cities will be fun.

I notice one long term problem. If an AI spaceship gets launched and is scheduled to arrive before ours we need to have time/military forces to raze the capital of the AI civ(s) that launched and if the AI civ is rich we might need to do this several times. The reason is that all of the AI capitals contain wonders and an AI civ might move their capital to another city containing wonders. So we might need lots of nukes and spies (meaning a lot of fun :D).

So I think we should expand, expand, expand. We especially need to establish presence closer to the Egyptians by founding cities on e.g. the island east of South Observ ASAP (IIRC Tim mentioned this). Also I think we should destroy the Mongols and 1-3 other AI civs. We now have the techs to start this although getting artillery first might make sense.

Last but not least I think we should add veteran alpine troops to St. Louis' defenses. Actually I'd be tempted to attempt to start a war with the Carthaginians now and kill their troops. We really need a fortress somewhere west of St. Louis, plus maybe a city in order to be able to occupy a fortress on the mountain ENE of Caralis without unhappiness problems (or maybe a city on the mountain ?).

EDIT: We need far more military units on our main island. The French are not that far away and might invade, thus greatly delaying our progress.
 
A strategy yet to be considered is the stockpiling of commodity trucks. By having our wealth in undelevered freight, we won't be as subjected to cash pressure from the ai, nor will we be rated so high in power as to deter the ai from wonder building activity.

Yet we will be able to quickly launch a spaceship and if necessary, launch a war. :yeah:

I agree with most of these points, particularly getting a stronger presence (and transportation network) near the Egyptians and Babylonians. I think we should expand toward them from both sides - expanding East from Cunaxa/South Observ. and expanding south and west from Cremona. If not, we could potentially get beaten by a fast ship.

The one thing I disagree with is getting rid of several civs. The smaller civs like Carthage, americans, and even the mongols could potentially build apollo, but they are too small to build a fast ship before us. The only risk would be if they develop nuclear weapons and hurt our productivity (or divert it to building SDI instead of SS parts. Furthermore, seeing the payouts from trade deliveries to the mongols, we should probably keep them around a while.
 
And to add one point: "BUILD CITY WALLS !!!". Given how the Mongols behaved during my reign (and apparently Tim's as well) building them in Khanbalyk would be really useful, plus veteran AT. And growing one city (probably Bokhara Academy) on the Mongol island to big size would be very useful.

Coastal fortresses in some cities might be useful.

Regarding the destruction of some AI civs, in my experience we have no reason to fear having problems getting one of the remaining AI civs to build Apollo.
 
I'd like to keep all 6 AI civs around till SpaceFlight - although they do not need to be full-sized. My guess would be the Americans or the French for completing Apollo, followed by the Carths or Egypt. With a little bit of stockpiling we could build a really fast ship in only one turn, so I'm not worried about the ship, and once Apollo is build we can "loose the dogs of Mars". I would really not like to see Manhattan Project completed anywhere, and I think we could set up some ship chains to our own remote islands once SuperHighways make those payoffs better. That would keep us from "blessing" the AI civs with our deliveries so much. AI payoffs will still be better, but we are going to want to taper off towards them as we get closer to SpaceFlight. We probably ought to knock out any offensive AI naval units, just to keep the sea lanes clear till we get Airports.

Sounds good. It would be a shame to lose a weekend, since that is most people's prime playing time. If golem shows up but a little too late, I'm sure he could just take the next turn.

I just hope nothing has happened to him. I left my last golem out in a rainstorm, and he melted back into a mud puddle. I was very disappointed, all I got back was the carrot nose. :(

You see, it's happening again, I'm getting so attached to my golems that I anthropomorphize them! :rolleyes:

OH GOD !! I see it was my fault. I wrote (5th March) that I will be out till next Monday - in English it means till 7th. in Czech till 14th. The words are the same, meaning different.

I left the city production untouched. We need some more
SuperHighways, MassTransits, and a bunch of Libraries if we
are going to go for 2 techs/turn.
I've been working to get rid of Issus, and doing some more
exploring down south. I've rushed a Rifle in Way2Egypt.
The French just broke the ceasefire. The Carth have been
quiet, and Egypt just wants 1000g to make up.
Mongol, Carth and American cities have been good for deliveries;
French was, but I had no navy there to patrol. There's a
Battleship and 2 Cruisers patrolling off Carthage

Betware the ship chain crossing from Rhondda to NoCol2: it
crosses the dateline...

Depends on how much micro-management and logging you do. I obviously do too much...

Old n Slow, might help to switch to 5 turns per player...
