Noble's Club II - Ramses II

I forgot to make pics on the way, but here is the general story. I played the game in one go....
Spoiler :
I played on prince difficulty and decited to try the religious economy too. I settled on place and researched ah and the mining and bronze working. As we had pigs nearby i decided to start with a worker to get the pigs early+irrigate some land and later chop. Well when i found the Ethiopians i decided they were too far to rush so i decided to be peaceful towards them for a while (as i later found out for too long). I built my 2nd city south of capital to get the horsers. Next city went to east near the elephants and 3rd city to get the marble. I didn't like much other land so i didn't built more cities at start and i kinda forgot about expanding. As i was using religious economy my shopping list was the stonehenge in capital which i choped right after the 1st settler. As i lost all of my capital's forests i decided to chop pyramids in the 2nd city. I also built the hanging gardens from the early wonders. About then i met the Dutch, but as i had no coastile cities i just ignored them. All of the 1st 3 religions got founded on the other continent so i decided to get one. I got both confusianism and taoism. I decited to spread confusianism tough as it was earlier. I also grabbed the +1 hammer priests wonder. By then ethiopia had spammed all of our continent and i had only 4 cities. They also passed me in score and i felt i needed to do something. So i rushed to gunpowder. As i had nothing to built and i didnt want to build outdated units. I grabbed 2-3 of mid game marble wonders like mauseulom. They hadn't got much use tough for me. Well anyway my plan was to invide ethiopia complitly as they were 2-3 techs behind me. The war started out well. I captured 4-5 of their newly found cities. However they had also gotten gunpowder and just when i was about to capture their capital, the oroman warriors appeared. I decided i can't beat them and made peace. About then India and Portugal contacted me. India had a massive score and Portugal as his vassal. I felt that India could ruin my chances of winning. So my plan was to beline to the infartry and capture my continent. As I didn't settle the southern coast, some Dutch cities appeared them. I added Dutch to my destroy list after the Ethiopia. About when i was 1 tech away from infartry. Both Ethiopia and the Dutch declared on me. I found out that Dutch coastile cities on my continent were lightly defended and i captured them easily. I got peace from the Dutch and researched the infartry tech. I didn't have cannons yet, so i had to research some more before inviding Ethiopia. Meanwhile on the other continent Russia declared on India. I tought i was good omen for me, but as Russia was much behind India captured some of their cities and Russia catapulted. (altrough they still tryed to get me to stop trades with India) At least Portugal declared themselves indipendent again. So by 1750 i managed to crush all Ethiopian resistance and capture the continent. They had 2 cities on the small island mass on the north. I decided to vassal Ethiopia and save myself from double. Then i wanted to go after the Netherlands. However i got the announcment of India building Apollo program. India was still ahead of me in the score, but as i now had more land and population, i decided to challange them on the space race. I was a few techs behind, so i had troubles at start and needed to build research. Anyway then Russia decided to decalre independence and started to fight India again. They lost that time too, but it kept India busy for a while. The spaces ships parts built were 4:0 to him. Fortunately due to building science and getting the old ethiopian cities up and running, i started to research faster. I also had higher production. So in the end i won the space race by 4 parts. It was my first prince victory.

@ SimonL

Spoiler :
My stone henge got built in the same spot! Hahahaha!
Like you my second city went to the stone - 1NW of your site - I used this site to stage my attack on Zara. I think aggressive blocking settlements are pretty good.

@ Groogaroo.

Spoiler :
I've been mauled by the barbs a bit. Took me ages to find Zara as bears keept eating my woodsman2 warriors! Also a load of barbs turned up at my capital just as I finished a war chariot (phew!). I reckon you probably have some good production so don't worry to much about tech but DO try to take out Zara. I don't think you should restart on noble but maybe if it is a bithopeless go back t a earlyer save. Just try to slug it out!
I think your hybrid economy is a good idea.

Ok heres my report!

Checkpoint 1a: 305BC - sorry I played past 200BC but I got caught up in the game!

Just to recap I'm playing Prince, Epic.

Spoiler :

Ok so this section I did some exploring - can't belive there is only two of us on this continent - at least I got to have an early rush and will need to do some intercontinental warfare!

Tech: AH> Mining> Myst> BW> Pot> Med> Priest> Writing (popped the oracle on the same turn as this came in)> CoL(Oracle)> Hunting (Ivory here I come - can any one say "Zeus!")> Archery> Masonary> Iron> started Math.

So then. I meet Zara - he seems to pop up in a lot of my games at the moment.

Civ4ScreenShot0000.jpg

This was my early dot map - I'll do a new one now that the game has developed a bit. I settled pig/stone and gold/sugar.

Some posts that I ws going to make my 2000BC report with
Civ4ScreenShot0002.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0003.jpg

At this point I stopped. Well no I didn't. Just one more turn. Please?

So 44 tuns later...

Big Willy turns up for the party in a fishing boat (Q. Whats that smell? A. Big Willy!) Hmm this guy can be a real monster.
Civ4ScreenShot0004.jpg

A few turns later and before I was really ready I DoW on Zara the impolite way so no nice screen shot! I saw him mining a plains square so know he had Iron as I couldn't see it at that point. First turn I attacked I took his iron out and the only metal troops I faced were one sword and a couple of axes (I think).

His capital. Taken and Kept.
Civ4ScreenShot0005.jpg

His second city. I think not. Razed.
Civ4ScreenShot0006.jpg

At about this time about 4/5 barbs turned up in vicinity of my capital - which had just finished a war chariot. Horray! Sorry no screenshot.

Ok then.
Thebes at the save. Next will be the mids!

Discusion will follow!

And the save

Well I will try and go back to my 2000BC save and play again,

Basically here's a more detailed reason of why my game took a turn for the worse.

This is played up to about 1AD just incase your worried about spoilers

Spoiler :
at first barbs were not a big problem, I spammed warchariots which take out warriors and archers easily. but then I got a random event from hell and 4 barb spearmen appeared from nowhere and went on to eat pretty much my whole army of chariots.

I survived, but from here on in I just had to keep building military units and soon barb swords and axes started showing up and kept coming after me. :(

As I settled aggressivly towards Zara I think he didn't have much of a problem with them. Theres no way I can keep playing this current save now as zara has too much land and plenty of troops. So I'll go back to a previous save and pray I don't get that spearman event again.

EDIT - Grandad, well played, I may follow your example with our nieghbour. Looks like the way to go.

@ Groogaroo

Spoiler :
Thats pretty hash. The chances of getting hit by the same event are pretty remote I reckon. Now you've mentioned spears I might crank out some axes!

Also thanks for the kind words!

Thoughts and questions on my first round - up to 305BC

Spoiler :

I think my aims for the next round (a short one till the early ADs) should be:
1. Tech the rest of math> currency> CS then make a break for Theology. What do I need to have teched to bulb this with a great priest?
2. Try to fillin the key parts of the continent to stop barbs and to prevent other civs settling there.
3. Build the mids to leverage some civics changes. Is this probably a waist of hammers (I'm thinking of a cottage/hybrid economy)?

Longer term goals.
1. Build AP so I know its under my control (spread the AP religion as much as possible to the other civs when I meet them).
2. Meet the rest of te AIs. Fishing, Sailing, Compass and Optics. This means I'll also work the military part of the tech tree.
3. Maybe build the Ankor Wat (Philo), Sprial Minerat( Divine Right), and the Uni of Sankore (paper). This route - apart from DR - takes me closer to Lib (astro from Lib?)

I'm thinking Dom or conquest here so lots of high production sites and cash.

Could people tell me what they would do in this situation? If you want more info/screens I can do that but probably not till tomorrow now.

Okay playing this game on prince is making me feel like my such a noob again  , arrgghh! Need some quick tips on how to turn this game around.

here is my current situation/plan at 2000 BC, any advice would be greatly welcome.

Spoiler :
Okay, need some advice, currently I'm back at 2000BC, at this stage I have already made some mistakes. My first new city was poorly placed, its not going to make a good GP farm or a Good production city it is kind of stuck inbetween the a with mixture of floodplains and plains hills, but I'm stuck with it for now. Seeing what some other people have done I'm planning on making my third city right up close and personal with Zara to launch an attack (red city).

Groo_NC2_2000_04.jpg

Other bad decisions included chasing the oracle and was a waste of good beakers on Poly and Preisthood, I've only just started the oracle but need to cancel that to focus on getting troops over to Zara, I will probably switch to slavery to help whip up a few extra chariots.

How many Warchariots is a good number to rush in on Zara? I normally always build too few and fail or take too long building too many by which time a rush is out of the question.

Sorry I keep asking for help, but I'm stuck. :(

@ Groogaroo

Spoiler :
Definatly settle in the red area.
When I DoW on Zara I had about 5/6 chariots. I attacked his capital with 3 and got very lucky - I was being pretty silly at the time. As you can tell it took me anouther 20 turns to finish my war as barbs turned up and I'd lost a few chariots. I say a least 8-10 in your stack just so you can keep momentum. Also since you know barbs re a problem get some archers or chariots to patrol your borders. I settled my second city 1S of the gold as Zara had placed a rubbish city and I wanted to block him more before I attacked.
Has Zara founded Buddism? He did in my game.

@ Grandad

Spoiler :
Luckily Zara hasn't founded a religion in my game, so no holy city to attack, few! Its funny how something like that varies between our games?

Thanks for the advice, I think atleast having a clear focus (ie, Zara must die) and sticking to it should help me keep this game on track this time. 8-10 chariots sounds like the magic number to me.

Groo:
Spoiler :
You're pressing, bro. Let it flow. You dont need to concern yourself with Zara so soon, he wont bug you, let him tech in peace. You can easily wait until Construction, if you wish, as you have PLENTY of rich land to settle yourself. My 2nd city was down there for Horse/FP/Ivory too (I chose not to have the marble in my BFC, being Industrious, I figured I could wait until I popped borders enough later, same with the stone), and its fine as a hybrid, and has both built wonders AND run specialists, depending on which tiles I work. My 3rd (sugar, gold) and 4th (horses, fish, 1-gem) cities served to confine Zara to the NW corner, and cut off all that lovely SW grassland for myself later. I even skipped the Oracle and went for the GW instead (after Stoney, which is almost a must with Egypt), so I could expand in peace. Zara is not that aggressive, and will be friendly, especially if you can get a common religion. Keep him around to tech the lines you arent, trade with him some post-Alphabet to fill some holes, THEN take him out. Zara is nothing like Monty or some others, he will not come for you if you keep to yourself and maintain equal power.

Patience is a difficult thing to have in this game, but this map kind of demands it. I traded Zara for 4 techs before going to war, and took 2 more from him in exchange for peace. I teched CoL myself, still easily got Confu, and sent the missionary right to Zara's capitol. I can truly point to the Great Wall as the key to my success, because the Barbs wandered around my cultural borders with nothing to do, and when Zara tried to sneak settlers past my little city-blockage, he was squished by them. It was only when Zara founded Taoism, and I had Construction, that I went after him. I even had small stacks heading for a couple of his "frontier" cities, but the barbs took them out first. Worked like a charm. I consolidated while I built more Cats, and in the end I got 4 cities from him worth keeping, at a time in the game when I could afford them. Remember, the AIs suck at war. Keep pace with units, build them pretty steadily, on and off between buildings, in all cities as you improve tiles and get your populations to happy-cap in your first 4 or 5 cities, and when it comes time for the war, you can use whipping, chopping to crank out an army, and combined with previously built units, strike in a couple different spots.

I think you are pressing because you feel a sense of urgency going up to Prince. Trust me when I tell you its not a big worry, there is no hurry here. Remember, the main goal of early rush-type wars is to gain space for your own expansion. In this game, we dont need space right away. Build a line of cities along that E-W river, kind of curving toward those gems, give Zara room for a few cities of his own, and build the GW to give you the peace of mind you need to build other key Wonders. Its not hard to stay ahead of the AIs at Prince, if you dont let them dictate your play too much.

Round 2: 2000BC- 50AD
Spoiler :

Great wall comes in early in this round

GWall.jpg

Thebes starts a worker, we only have one so far...

Memphis whips an obelisk after it grows to 2 pop, starts warrior. Thebes goes for the Oracle, which will grab MC most likely. Research is set to writing, followed by polytheism towards aesthetics and lit for the GL.

Heliopolis is founded in 750 BC, the expansion is going slowly in this game, but I'm not particularly worried since I've only met Zara.

City3.jpg

The first Great Spy is born in Thebes, we merge him for 12 EPPT, soon I'll be able to see Zara's tech and cities.

GSpy.jpg

I trade aest for alphabet to zara since I may need spies. Even though it's really late I think I can get some use out of chariots still..

techtrade.jpg

Thebes popped some gold in one of the hills
pop.jpg

We're going to raze a city or two with the chariots that I have before they're obsolete.

smallstack.jpg

thefallofaddisababa.jpg

I kept Gondar, it has two good food sources and coastal, it'll face cultural pressure from zara's capital until i finish him off though.

Since I didn't have enough steam left to continue the war, I signed peace, he wouldn't give me anything though.

city 4 was founded near the end of the round, giving me 5 cities at 50 AD which is where I stand now.

city4.jpg

I also grabbed the oracle this round for MC, giving me forges for GE possibilities + faster chariot production

Oracle.jpg

Note:
I'm playing a poor game right now.. Wanted to go about things differently than I normally do with Ramesses and it's not working out.. We'll see how it goes I guess..

Spoiler :
Good thing I chose Noble, Zara would have way outexpanded me by now, were he alive.

I put checkpoint 2 up. Consolidation time! Also, would anyone like to do a SG next time?

Thanks Bleys and Grandad for the advice, I'm going back to my 2000BC save and going to play from there as my game at 1AD is just too wonky to rescue :crazyeye:

It looks like I have 2 options

Spoiler :
1) Build an army and wipe out Zara

2) Build the great wall and let zara take the brunt of the barbs

Again thanks for the help, I'm going to go and play back upto 1AD and see how I fare.

Hey Krick

Spoiler :
Almost wish I played Noble now, finding this start tough on prince, but I'm determined to beat it!

Never played an SG before, after my performance this game I'd be worried about screwing up my round!

Hi

My update. In year 1825 my third city went legendary and I got my second cultural win ever hehe. And the first one I every actually *planned* to get early on. MY first one was just kind of accident since late in game all of a sudden I noticed I had 3 cities with very very high culture. Normally I would have one and maybe very rarely two but as soon as I saw 3 I decided hey wouldnt it be neat..so from that point on I tried to get em to legendary fast.

But this time I decided to go for culture win pretty early on. I know I should have given updates more but really there wasnt much to add. Here is how I went from last update:

Spoiler :
Ok after Yakov was all done with I dediced to go with my plan of the 3 citied I build early on counting starting capitol thebes, plus memphis and Heriosomethingalis would wonderwhore and focus on getting culture while Yakovs old cities would spam units and settlers and workers and pretty much anything else I needed to expand out and fill up land mass.

I had GW built so barbies were no problem and expanding was pretty easy to since all I really did was move all my warchariots I had left from rush on Yakov to Yakov's old cap and then it would build a settler and off it would go with a wc to build a new city.

So really there was nothing to report hehe. The game from then on was really just SIMempire hehe. Most everything went kind of like I was hoping it could go. I had built oracle and picked CoL for the free tech which gave my contient a religion and I decided to try and get two more at least and just hope the two already founded would be enough to keep the other continent fighting which it already sounded like since I noticed a cople of GG's spawning already.

And even THAt with off pretty spiffy. A great priest spawned in capitol but I hadnt teached organized religion yet so I decided to save him to LB theocarcy.. After OR was finished I made SURE every single city I had already buit already had confusionism. I even held a settler back a turn to make sure it wouldnt get the holy city. Then I LB theocarcy and got luck. Thebes which was holy city for confusionims also got holy city for Christianity for dbl holy city :). And to make it even better A GE popped that teun too so I used him to Hurry AP. Yeah I know it might have been wast of GP since I didnt think I was really in big race to build it since I got to theocarcy first BUT hurrying AP meant all those temples and and monastaries that had been built or were being built would kick in with their extra hammaers THAT much sooner so I figured it was worth it.

There was really only ONE hiccup the whole game and even that one I got lucky. And somepoint when I had theoacracy done and I wa slooking at what do do next I decided to go after CS even though it was still twice as expensive as must other techs. But I figured getting CS and switching to Buracracy ASAP would not only make capitol wonderwhore better but would also make teching faster in long run with the science boost PLUS it will help get other cities going better since I could start chaining farms where I needed to. SO I went for CS and again JUST as CS got done a GE pops.

SO now I am thinking hmmm LB machinery or no?. At this point machinery is 17 turns to teach on my own. And again MAYBE I wasted my GE buit it just so happened I had a couple of cities that were just PERFECT for some watermills and didnt want to wait so I LB machinary. Turns out it was luck that I did. I wasnt paying attenion to the map and as I hit return Willy DoW's on me grrr. I Being allone for most part had me get lazy military wise since when I checked the number of my soldeirs was ranked like 5th out 6. So I guess willy smelled blood and was felling froggy so he took a jump at me..

He moves in with 3 galleys and drops off 6 units next to a city onto a forest. I guess ol Willy been reading guides bout mixing forces becasue make up of his 6 unit stack was like 2 swordsman a axeman a sprearman a chariot and a catapult. Not THAT impressive but still more than the little archer I had in the city could handle. BUT since I had JUST gotten machinery that archer turned into a Crossbow and city switched to building walls. One swordsman tries to take on the crossbow and loses and reast of stack waits while cat bombards defenses. Poor cat was gonna be bombarding a while all by itself since thanks to wonderwhoring I had Chicken Pizza built already and that next turn walls got whipped. And that gave PLENTY of time for a few axemen to get upgraded to maces and then go take care of the stack. Now normally if a civ did something like that it means EVERYthing gets dropped until that civ knocked off face of planet. But this time I stuck with the plan. I just harresed his fishing boats with a cpl of triemes until he gave me a ton of gold for peace.

I am proud of myself that I stuck with plan even though afte that he didnt DoW anymore but did try TWO times settling on MY contientent. Both times I razed the city and pillaged his fishing boats until he delared peace and he lived through whole game. BUT he is at top of my list now so next game I play that he is in he is gonna have HUGE target on his back grrrrr.

But THAT was pretty much it as far as conflict went. Even diplomacy wasnt big a deal. Jao hated me right from get go. Asoka was basically indifferent and Stalin didnt like me but hated Asoka more so was always DoWing on him. And Stalin kept bribing Jao into dogpiling it looked since EVERY time Stalin DoW on Asoka Jao would be declaring right after. Which I think is the biggest reason I never had to deal with wave of Carracks ending up on my shores since Stalin kept Jao too busy jumping on Asoka.

Not That Asoka was being a pushover. He was a tuff lil civ this game. After learning lesson from willy and making it a priority to keep military up I would be jumping up and down between 1 and 2 for most game until I got calvary and then infantry which after wards put me through the roof compared to other civs. BUT for that period where I was neck and neck for number 1 the one I was competing against was NOT Stalin or Jao but Asoka. So even though Asok was getting double teamed by Jao and Stalin they were NOT making much progress against him.

Meanwhile SB was doing what he always does if he manages to live that long. He turtles up with what he was able to carve out before his units go too outdated to expand anymore then just sits there with espionage slider set to like a bazillion and doesnt do anything rest of game except for being a PITA with his spies but since he was on another continent he was their PITA not mine hehe.

It made it hard to trade. Willy, Jao, and Stalin wouldnt trade at all but I did get Bananas, Spices, and Furs from Asoka and SB and other than ignoring when they begged for techs or asked me to join in the Asoka v. Stalin/Joa wars The other civs were not a factor at all.

So actually it was just waiting till I got to assembly both to upgrade lots of maces to Infantry to get a high enough power rating that noobdy would think of DoWing me (well nut jubs like Monty probably STILL would have but he wasnt playing that geme hehe). Afyter that I stopped teching stopped building just set slider to 100% culture. Set my big three to building culture and everyone else either building wealth to keep my income at psotive then afte that to science.

Then it was just hitting shift reurn untill my big three all got legendary.

It wasnt a GREAT game playwise. I KNOW I didnt pick my cities all THAT great mostly because my prioty was settinling along coast ASAP to keep willy out and then later to keep Jao from trying to drop off settlers with his carracks. So the is LOTS of nice land inside my continent that while IS inside cultural borders ISNT getting worked on at all. and in fact my score might have been a lil higher if I had bothered trying to settle a few more cities in where there was space for em. But my plan wasnt meant for high score so I didnt worry bout whetehr a city was in a good site as in how well would it grow or produce there as much as will putting it there block off lots of coast.

This wasnt my best game scorewise it was one that didnt give me much porblems. I got to play in marathon speed yay! :) and Two Contient Hemis is map I play THE most often so as soon as I saw in thread what map setting was. I KNEW fist priorty check and see if I am stuck on big island or am I on the 2 civ content or 4 civ continent. And if I am on the smaller number civ continent MAKE dang sure GW gets built or else barbies will be a MAJOR pain.

So this game was really in my comfy zone all the way which is why I decided to try for straight peaceful culture win. Normally I dont do "peace" to well since I usually end up getting annoyed at someone and have to go kill em hehe. I think that is ONLY thing I would play differently. I would still focus my big three on culture while rest of empire just played more agressive like take out willy and then go get resources I need from other continent the diplomatic way--asking them nicely to give em to me while my soldeirs are taking over their cities hehe.

So thats bout it nothing REALLY worth uploading to see but here is saved game 1 turn beofre final victory in case any1 wants to take a peek :)

Well done KaytieKat, I won't peek just yet but when I've progressed through my game a bit.

Well after screwing up my own game I went back in time to 2035 BC and decided to have another go, heres my update...

checkpoint 3 - 1 AD

Spoiler :

Okay after an awful second round I went back to my 2035 BC save and replayed, we learn by our mistakes.

2035 BC

my aim was to get the great wall up, missing this was my big downfall as I got swamped by barbs last time. I also wanted to build some settlers/workers/chariots to expand my empire along the river that devides the continent, thus blocking Zara into a smallish space making him an easier target later. (thanks to Bleys for the tip) :)

Research went, Masonry > writing > Ironworking

1300 BC everything is going to the plan so far, the great wall has been built and I got a couple of cities up along the river.

Groo_NC2_0001_01.jpg

Also got my first Great Priest, not much for him to do so I settled him in the capital. I'm now teching, poly > priesthood, still hoping I have a chance for the oracle. As soon as I 've got priesthood I start on the oracle and...

950 BC

oracle was built in a far away land, :( I just don't learn, I switch to the mids, a wonder I can't afford to miss. started researching code of laws, which is going to take about 20 turns, but its worth it if I bag the religion.

750 BC

founded a third city along the river effectivley blocking off Zara, there is a little space though so the barbs can sneak through to pester Zara :mischief: . Actually there is a constant stream heading his way... Sorry Zara mate, rather you than me. ;)

Groo_NC2_0001_02.jpg

380 BC

Code of laws is in, founded confucism, soon after the mids are finished and I switch to caste/rep which will give me an instant boost in beakers. Next on my list of techs are Maths > Aesthetics > Litrature

160 BC

Zara must have teched Alphabet because he came a knockin for a tech trade, with a bit of jiggling we strike a deal that leaves us even stevens on tech.

Groo_NC2_0001_03.jpg

125 BC

Got our second great priest which built the confucian shrine, yay! more gold per turn! zara is also confucian now so the shrine should start being profitable.

5 BC

this is where I've finished this round. Aesthetics is finished and my capital has started on the ShwePaya, The economy is very good at this stage, I really should have expanded more, so thats next on my to do list.

We are currently getting 71 beakers from 90% science, and +4 gold per turn.

Inevitabley I think I need to start working towards a decent stack, as at some point Zara is going to have to go, bless him, he's pleased with us even though I havn't open borders with him yet. Probably wait on the war until I have some better weapons (ellie and cats).

Here are a couple of screenies of the tech situation, which isn't pretty even, once I get a few more cities up and a few more scientits running we should start leaping ahead.

Groo_NC2_0001_04.jpg

The world map, as we now it. really I need to get a few more cities up asap. I curious as to Willem is but don't have a coastal city yet, so maybe thats the next step.

Groo_NC2_0001_05.jpg

and thats all for now...

Bye!

:)

I'm getting quite in to this game now after my crazy start, thanks to everyone who gave me advice, it helped settle my thoughts and get on with game.

Cheers :goodjob:

KaytieKat:
Great job! But it's Yaqob, not Yakov. I think you know that, but just making sure.
Groogaroo:
We'd play on Noble, and losing wouldn't matter. Unless you declared war on everyone the same turn.

@ KatieKat
Well done! I'll read your post when I've got a bit further in to the game. You sure your not ready for prince? ;)

@Groogaroo.
Thats a reall pretty line of cites you've got there!

@Everyone with the Great Wall.
I wish I had it :( I can feel the barbs begining to get going in my game. I feel like Rome in 387AD - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Allia (this features civs own Brennus)! Edit: I don't know if Brennus is in this game so please don't think this is a spoiler!

Well I don't really but a little bit of histry is always good. Also I've been playing RTW so Rome is in my head at the moment.

Played up to approx 1000AD. No screenies, apologies.

Spoiler :
My game's going swimmingly - went for Noble, as I've not played BtS properly for ages prior to this. Should have picked Prince really.

Decided against the early rush on Zara - instead, went for a wonder/REX combination in the light of not having any aggressive neighbours. Met Willem early on - built Stonehenge in 2400BC, which was an early priority. The early plan was to Oracle CoL, and this worked perfectly - an early high-hammer capital and industrious leader made it a breeze, and the Oracle was built in 1320BC.

Had a GP about 10 turns after that, so built the shrine and spread it to Zara, who's now my bestest buddy.

After that, went for Aesthetics with the intention of building Shwedagon and hitting an early Pacifism. Decided against that when I got beaten to the gold, however - built SoZ instead, as well as the Parthenon, and Great Library.

One hilarious thing that happened was after getting beaten to the gold site at about 100AD, I teched Music and bombed the GA in a brand new city I founded three tiles away. 4 turns later, Zara's city revolted - 6 turns after that, it flipped. It was also the Christian holy city! And I got the gold (though idiot Zara founded on the gold rather than next to it :( )

So it's 1000AD - now teching Education, plan on taking Nationalism from Liberalism, teching to Rifles and taking Zara out with those. Then start thinking about Willem (I know where he is, but won't spoil it) and possibly the others after that. Still wonder-whoring - built Sistine, Notre Dame, Hanging Gardens.

Welcome V8

Spoiler :
In my game Zara settle on exactly the same spot right on top of the Gold. What a fool!

Okay something very strange is going on in my game :crazyeye: , please don't read this spoiler if you havn't started exploring with caravels, I've blanked out the leader board but this spoiler features another land mass other than our own.

Spoiler 1000 ADish
Spoiler :
Okay someting very odd happened in my game and I just can't figure this out?

I have managed to wipe Zara out, or so I thought, he actually managed to settle on a small island just north of our main continent.

Now the crazy thing is I discovered this around 1000AD, Zara didn't even have optics for caravels let alone galleons to transport settlers, and with open border's a Galley cannot reach the island.

How on earth did Zara get there?

Update on my game is coming soon.

So can anyone explain this... its physically impossible!
