Hey there,
I'm a civ 2 player.
Learnt all the tips and tricks in that game (not cheats)
I'm looking for some kickass* guides to civ 3. The ones in the war room, just don't seem to be that good. I'm up to Regent level and just playing AI presently.
Can anyone direct me to their favorite resource, or does anyone want to train a young padawan?

ed :king:

My favourtie resource is the Succession Game Forum. I learned the most there, about how to dig myself out of a hole, etc.

I don't mind training a young padawan. :)

(And there are really no comprehensive guides to Civ III, because the game is so detailed. To be a very good player, you most of all, you need experience, because there are situations where there is a very obscure choice that almost never occurs to anyone except Sirian)

Definitely try a succession game. Experienced players may comment on the game to help out. Also, try the War Academy: http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3academy.shtml It has everything.

I wouldn't mind helping your gameplay, but I wouldn't be able to go past Emperor (and I'm not even all that comfortable there.)

Like all games, you can learn the patterns of the AI and counter them effectively. You can call yourself a good palyer at that point, but you're only good. The War Academy has all the info you need to get there.

Now if you want to be great, well that takes some work - and like every other game, Human foes are the best, because you can never be sure what they will do next. I'm not suggesting you play multi-player, so much as I am agreeing on the succession game. Learn the advanced tricks, then challenge your teacher and see if you can complete the circle, Annie.

Any chance you'd be willing to start one? I'd be willing to join up myself. I have been looking for a while now, and I have yet to find a game that fits anywhere near my needs. If Edmund here is also in need, would be cool if you have the time (and patience).

Huh? A training day game for vanilla 1.29 around Regent or Monarch? Fine. :) Confirm what you mean first though.

Yea, only not as long, and with maybe a different theme. :)

[as explained in this thread)

Training Day Games (TDG)
A game where an expert of that level trains newer players. The expert may or may not start off the first 20 turns, after that, the player (trainees) play 10 turns, and post a detailed log for each turn. Play does not resume until the expert has reviewed and commented on the save.

If you have any more questions, please ask. :)
