Ive used the search engine and could not find what i am looking for. could somone please give me step by step instructions or a link to how to open scenarios?

Download it to the scenario folder, it is in the Civ3 game folder.
Then in the game select 'conquests!' and select the downloaded file.

I believe that answer is wrong.
If you've put the scenario in your 'Scenarios' folder, you need to select 'Civcontent' in game.
If you've put it in your 'Conquests' folder, then you need to select 'Conquests' in game.

Yes put it in the scenario folder and select Civ Content. Leave the Conquest folder the way it came. You can use it, but why mess with it, when they gave us a place to use.

I will try:

1. hit your "Start" button and select "Computer" or "My Computer" (Computer if you have vista, why did they change it?)
2. then open your "C" drive
3. open your "Programs" folder
4. open your Civ3 file (can't remember the default name because I renamed mine when I first installed it - mine is named CivHeroin since its so addictive)
5. open your "Conquests" folder
6. open your "Scenarios" folder
7. copy or cut and paste the files and map for the scenario you want to install - I assume you are downloading the scenarios to your desktop?
8. start your Civ3 game and select "Civ-content" - here will be listed all scenarios, including those that come with your game.
8. find the scenario and select it

Hopefully that helps!

No one with Vista downloads files to the desktop anymore. They use the downloads folder.

You're probably not very used to file structures and stuff, VanCouverman.

I assume you've downloaded a scenario. How does it look like? There are usually two files: a Biq. and a folder. The Biq. looks like the game icon. What is very important is that the Biq. and the folder have exactly the same name. You can't have a Biq. that says 'Mystara Random Map' and a folder that just says 'Mystara'. Rename if necessary.

They both go in the same place. Brucha already gave one way to find the place you need to put them in. I'll give a slightly different way:
Right-click on your CivIII icon > choose properties > find target: now you should see all the seperate files in your CivIII registry. One of them is called 'Scenarios'. That's where you put your scenario files in. I usually just drag them in there.

That should be it. It doesn't need to be the end of the story, because a lot of fanmade scenarios carry bugs; a small typo in some file and the game will crash or not even start up. So they're not always user friendly. Sometimes a thread of a scenario gives instructions on how to sort the bugs out, sometimes there's a patch available. You wouldn't be the first one to struggle with scenarios.

I download things to the desktop before moving them someplace else. I actually use the Downloads folder for stuff I use that doesn't need to install.

does c3c even work for vista?

Yep. I don't want to type more.

Did you try compatibility mode?

maybe just messed up the location or something, anyway, i can't stand playing a user scenario due to the way it likes to destroy my computer. bye bye folder with all of my saves... almost.
