When talking about theory of myths, a really good introductory work is Miletinsky's "Poetics of Myth" (or similar translation). I'm far from expert, but I like this one very much since it presents an excellent overview of all schools about mythology theory around (chapter 1), neatly condensed but quite heavy style, some general myth archetypes as well as several analysis of modern mythologism of individual authors in literature (Joyce, Kafka among others). I havent finished it yet however; not much time these days. Anyone else read it or about to?
