Telefragged will move the forum server next Friday, not this Friday as originally planned. The move will take about 6 hours.

They said they need to move the server about 150 miles. They will upgrade the server OS and add more RAM to it in the process. :)

Knowing this already now, an additional announcement would be very convenient.

Will the back-up sites be on-line?

when would this 6 hours be do you know would it be evening GMT?

Don't know about that yet...

The main site will not be affected by the move so you can still get updates from it. :)

Know the time? Post it in GST if it's easier - I can always subtract 8 hours to get the time in which I need to stay offline.

So, I guess the main site is on yet another server? (html and sql servers, I guess..)

More RAM and a new OS eh? :D

Sounds good to me..hopefully it'll help out with the increased server load coming up w/PTW's release!

I wonder what the specs are of our server, can you get those TF?

Adding more RAM will definitely make it faster. RAMs are crucial for servers. :)

gonzo, I think those server specs are top secret. :D

Nah, I got them....

It's an intel 8088 at 4.77Mhz with 128k RAM. It's connection to us is via a dialup line and a modem it uses which was last clocked at a blazing 4880 bps.

SPEEEDY!

I think we are getting a 512K ram upgrade

;)

:D

3.0, you bet! ;)

Nah, I'm sure we got a good server, the new RAM will help out immensly since RAM is a VERY large part of a server's performance!

Now, if by upgrade they mean installing 64 MB more RAM, they can just pee into the wind for all I care.

I'm excpecting at least 256 MB more :D

And I hear there will be these cassette tapes that we load data in from! :D
;)

I have an ancient <5k bps modem around somewhere. Maybe I should donate it?

Plus I have a DX266 CPU in storage. Any offers???:crazyeye: :crazyeye:

So, the hamster is good for another week, he didn't croak as planned. :hmm:

Nah, it must be the puppy chow :D

Actually the forums are FLYING for me right now(not literally, but they are moving very fast)

perhaps the recent troubles have been caused by the DoS attacks on the internet's backbone.....:hmm:

That's what I was thinking... especially after the "Server not found" type error for a few hours.. :hmm:

I THINK that it is using something Unix based. If it was windows based, TF would probably have set up some ASP pages already, they are quite a nice feature for Windows based servers only.
