Notification log useless (really!)

The notification log shows events and notifications from your turn, however it is linked to the big flashing icons on the side of the screen. If the icon is still up you can access this big flashing icon by entering the log and clicking on the entry (wow, so much more convenient than clicking on the big icon!). If the icon is no longer up you can click on the log entry but get nothing, so you can't get any more detail on the events you can't read about any more through the flashing icons. This means it has almost entirely redundant functionality.

(I know I shouldn't put this sort of comment in, but it does seem like the design required a notification log and the programmers put in the easiest functionality they could provide rather than anything useful to the user.)

Their also seems to be no combat log. This would be genuinely useful as at the start of the turn you get a list of messages on screen about which units were bombarded, which units took damage, and that fishing boats were pillaged, but those messages vanish completely and you're left wondering what the heck went on in your opponent's turn. The window does scroll to give you a view of combat events in an opponent's turn but it sometimes scrolls to show a barbarian galley being shot by your city state ally, half way across the world from where you're fighting world war I. A log of those combat events, just showing the same text as shown at the start of the turn with a click to zoom over the relevant hex, would be genuinely useful. It wouldn't even need to hold the combat events for more than one turn.

At least add in things like research agreements, so I know how long they have left to go and whom I have made it.

This you can see in the diplomatic overview. Of course, since the design was made by Firaxis (), you only see when a certain "trade" has started and you will have to do the calculation how long it will still last by yourself.

I was just cursing the game out last night when I looked away for 5 seconds and missed all the combat that happened that turn because it had faded away by the time I looked at the screen... this is definitely a valid complaint/enhancement request.

Was this ever fixed? The multiplayer doesn't have any animations so units just disappear when they die and it's very difficult to figure out what happened after the fact, especially with the mandatory simultaneous turns.

I don't mind losing, but if I don't know why, I can't fix the problem and that's the most frustrating part.

One option, i'd like to have is this...

-- Eliminate some Notifications popping through a game setup (checkmarks) listing.

Scroll_barring a bunch of 'hem all at once is kinda strange. Reducing a few superfluous items (IMO) might help alleviate the problem.
