I've finally ordered Civ3: Conquests. I'm a long time PTW player currently in between warlord and regent difficulty. (can win everytime on warlord. but still struggle on regent)

anyways. what this thread is about is what differences and exciting new things can i expect from conquests. i've read reviews and they mention new improvements/units/civs (the usual like) but not go into much detail about the actual conquests. from what i make out they sound like scenerios about battles/wars in history in civ 3 style. i assuming its not like a normal game, what with new tech tree and stuff for each one.

also, is there anything else exciting i should know to get me all worked up about till it arrives sometime mid-week?

thnx in advance.

I would imagine there is a thread with that somewhere at CFC and hoefully stickied.
Yes there are a number fo things to get up about. Improved interface, new traits, new civs, new units. Two new levels. New terrain tiles.

Some bugs still around and others added, but no game breakers for me. Letahl bombardment and some units have bombardment. Enslavement. More wonders and two give units for free. On and on.

wow thanks. *goes to read thread*

Main gameplay adaptations you have to consider, imho, are

1. FP and SPHQ can be built around anywhere, as close as you want to your palace and not negatively interfere with corruption

2. Military and scientific leaders are not the same: sci can't build armies and mil can't rush great wonders. Both can still rush small wonders and any other stuff(which is obviously not as profitable), so no "wonders from wars"

3. Fascism and Feudalism are governments to be considered if you want very high military support in a given situation (big big or lots of small small cities)

4. Statue of Zeus (SoZ) and Knight's Templar are fearsome improvements that can generate your AA or MA army almost alone, or on the other hand, give the AI a big advantage over you in that manner, so make sure you are aware of who's got both: You definitely want to be those guys' best friend, or capture it ASAP

5. Watch out for spearmen, they don't get a bonus in conquests, but my tanks have had worse RNG luck since then :spear:

Even I find Conquests somewhat tolerable

Just to fill you in, I am a Civ2 player that despises Civ3.Conquests focus' on what was good in Civ3:The "ancient" era and warfare in general.
