Hello,
I have conquests, but I really liked how in the old civ3, the nukes changed terrain when they hit (change plains to grasslands, and grasslands to desert, etc.)
Is there a way? through civedit maybe? or some mod? to put that back in?
I really liked that, it's a shame they look it out. Shame because you can completely rebuild and there is no permanent damage. I think it's stupid, nukes should be nukes, they should administer permanent damage...but that's just my thinking, is there a way to make them change terrain again?

THanks guys!

Nukes'll change the territor, but you have to go through global warming first. So you'll need to set a bunch off. And then it's a random tile, not necessarily the one you want.

Thanks, but that's not what I want, I wanted it just like the old version where you hit and everything that gets polution also gets a terrain downgrade.

any ideas?

Nope, not possible.

In fact, it never happened in Civ3. Perhaps you're thinking of a previous civ incarnation?

no, it has.
If you install the original Civ3, and dont' do any upgrades, that's how the nukes are set up.

I am 130% sure!

Post a screenie of it. I never saw the terrain changed when playing the original Civ3.

Now, there is pollution, which is an orange blob on the tile. That's the only change I know of, and i'm pretty sure that's not what you're talking about.

I can confirm this, I did some tests tonight. Civ3 1.29f.

I tested tactical nukes and ICBM's. Both changed the tile they hit, plus the 8 tiles around. Grassland becomes plains, plains becomes desert. Tiles with forest do not change but the forest is gone of course.

One place, there was a river. The plains became flood plains instead of desert, not very bad.

I don't know what happens with tundra.

I also found out the AI aggression towards the player using nukes is a bit exaggerated. None of them declared war on me in the beginning, not until I had used a lot of nukes.

Edit:
I found something surprising when I nuked a small island. The island became one tile bigger! Just like a permanent low tide... Strange.

I stand corrected.

I don't remember that happening in the Original Civ. Just ran a test myself, and was surprised to see it do that.

I don't think it's possible to do the same in Conquest, however.

Wait a minute ... so the terrain doesn't change anymore in Conquests ????? NOOOOOOOOO.... that was one of the most fun parts of my first games.
"So you think you're tough ey ? Take that! (me declaring war on mountains&hills in my own territory)" ...
I'm not insane i just wanted to use nukes and not start a war. :D

I don't know of any mod that can do that, but I did have fun with the effects before.

I kind of nuked Paris a bunch, and terraformed the terrain around it into Flood Plain. (near a river)

Then captured the city, and cleaned the pollution. Then Paris' population went up by 20. :D

Yea there are so many ways to have fun changing terrain with nukes ... but it's gone now... :(
