I've done several searches and have not been able to find the list of default map sizes in hexes so please forgive me if I've overlooked a thread I couldn't find it.

Man it annoys me that the Worldbuilder does not tell you the amount of hexes for the default map sizes. It's nice to have a slider for easy customizing but you'd think they could put some notches for the default sizes! Also on a sidenote I find it strange that in game it doesnt tell you hex sizes either, only the amount of civs/CS.

I want to make some custom maps but I want the sizes to match up to the default for say Small, Standard, Large etc etc (Huge is obvious since the sliders only go so high).

So, who has a list for me of how many hexes are in the various map sizes please?

I believe when you are playing the game, and go to make a save, there is an option to save the map file as well. So you could load a Standard Map game, save the map, and then quit and load said map up in World Builder to see how large it is.

They're in <CiV Directory> \Assets\Gameplay\XML\GameInfo\CIV5Worlds.xml:

Code:
Duel: 40 x 25 (2 players, 4 city-states, 2 natural wonders)
Tiny: 56 x 36 (4 players, 8 city-states, 3 natural wonders)
Small: 66 x 42 (6 players, 12 city-states, 3 natural wonders)
Standard: 80 x 52 (8 players, 16 city-states, 4 natural wonders)
Large: 104 x 64 (10 players, 20 city-states, 6 natural wonders)
Huge: 128 x 80 (12 players, 24 city-states, 7 natural wonders)
There's other info in that xml file, but those were the things that I personally thought would be useful to pull out for mapping. Also, note that some of the map scripts appear to redefine those sizes, these are just the basic default sizes.

huh... those numbers lead me to believe that when I play a game it really is not using the map size I selected.

Forgive me if this has been pointed out somewhere...

When I play a game on huge map setting , I only discover 4 natural wonders. I dont have a ton of experiance with this since I havnt started too many games. When I tried huge 12 player maps the game crashed ... so what I do is set up a huge map then scale back to 8 players in the advanced option.

Looks like to me no matter what the map size is in the advanced settings ... the game goes by the number of players instead?

Anyone else experiance anything like this...

I would guess that, from that description of your problem, the game places a number of wonders based on the number of players instead of the map size. Since you've only got 8 players, you only have 4 wonders even though the map size is still Huge.
