OB08 - Tall Poppy Syndrome

I like large/standard and Erebus map.

Me too. I haven't experience too much lag on a large map using "vanilla" FFH. (FF is a different story!) If we turn the Infernals off, shouldn't we also turn off the Mercurians? (As hard as this may be to believe, I've actually never played either race!)

Other settings that I like to play are Living World (I love those Dancing Bears!) and End of Winter, but I can live without either.

May I join you? Warning: I'm a noob to SG's, althrough I have quite a bit of FfH experience.

No problems, you're in. Welcome aboard :)

The lag was from the hellfire (which I'll turn off). I'll roll a couple of starts tonight and we can pick which one we like. Large on Erebus and Erebus Continents. In 12 hours or so.

OK here are three starts to consider. All on Monarch, Large Map, Epic Speed with Hight to Low, Agressive AI, No Tech Brokering, Compact Enforced and No Hellfire selected.

First is with Mountain Coast map script. Sheelba.

Second with Erebus Continents map script. Decius (Bannor)

And with normal Erebus map script. My old fave Valledia.

Vote for your fave.

A. Easy with the Clan - conquer someone, crash economy, switch. You only need to be careful so that you won't end up as the civ your previous Clan incantation was in the process of eliminating.

Besides, I dislike the default Erebus mapscript.

I'm with 'A' Too.
We might not need to war any one with that start by going (Ag-Cal) strait away.(move one north and settle.)

Hmm...that's a tough choice for me between A and C. C is a crazy good start for expansion, which I tend to find safer than aggression for the exact reason Lone Wolf mentions (you become the victim). Found on a plains hill, get floodplains farms with Agrarianism going, and spam settlers, with the occasionaly warrior. It'd be nice if we were creative, but at least we start with Ancient Chants (I think).

The Clan has the advantage of their worldspell though. Getting lots of good map info early on is not to be underestimated. So I guess I would go with the clan, but wouldn't mind the Amurites.

I agree with A. Clan has their best moments in the early game, so we might as well start as them.

I always avoid playing the Clan, (its no fun being friendly with the Barbs!), but I agree; A for me! It would be nicer if the start wasn't so arboreal, though.

Lurker Comment: Bah, too bad I'm on vacation when you start up the next OB

Ah well, if you need a second reserve, I'm here. I need the "s" patch to finish my Sheaim game anyway (btw, what's happening with your Auric game?).

I actually thought I mentioned to you I would like to be in the next OB, but I guess I could be wrong :hmm:

Settle 1E and research Agriculture I assume.

I was thinking 1N for a few extra river tiles, but 1E probably is just as good, unless the Warrior reveals something particularly tasty to the N.

BTW, it's been so long since I've needed one, what autologgers will work with FFH?

Warrior 1N, goblin 1SW and then we'll see what is the best starting spot.
