Obama to talk to Hamas

I can sort of understand Hamas' reasoning. If the violence stops, what incentive is there for Israel to part with a good chunk of land for Palestine to be formed? I believe violence is their leverage stick. Asking them to give it up before coming to the bargaining table is akin to taking away all of their chips before they can play.

Since when did falling in line behind bad behavior ever work?

For everyone's information, I never said I did not care to hear Hamas' POV.
Who said anything about falling in line?

The proposal is to talk. And that is a proven strategy.

Saladin says: are you trying to badmouth me? Because really, you are starting to sound like Robert Kilroy Silk there.

Please, these groups will not stop until Israel is destroyed. Do you really think the great Messiah Obama is going to sit down and talk to Hamas and make them realize that destroying Israel is something that they cant do? Please, thats the point of their existance.

There could have been a Palestine back in 1948, but what happened? Why do you not hear anything from the Arab worlds condeming attacks by the Palestinians? The only time they speak up is when Israel attacks. Hell, how many Arab nations even recognize Israel as a country?

I knew he was a Muslim.

Winners seeds of humour fall on stoney ground. Again.

Jimmy Hill, RKS? Do you really think he's heard of them? BTW Football pics belong on Sports Talk, not OT. OK?

Jimmy looks like Saladin, OK?

EDIT: And Kilroy said Arabs did nowt for anyone. I tried to ring up and complain but my phone didn't have any arabic numerals on them :(

At least Obama is not advocating the BS cowboy diplomacy Bush advocated. Why on earth do we need to be directly involved with the conflict.

from guardian

what do ye think?

Bad idea. Hamas is a terrorist organization which butchers innocent civilians and puts others before harm's way every day. They deserve no recognition unless they disarm and open up.

That didn't help in the 30s.

Oh, please. The situations are totally different. It's not like we're dealing with some kind of quasi-occultist Jew-killing psychotic dictatorship that seeks to reclaim the territories it lost in the war.

I've been over-using Picard Facepalm lately, but you should be getting it. I knew someone would bring this up.

Negotiating is not a bad thing. Negotiating with the Nazis was a good thing. Giving in to their demands was a bad thing. If the Nazis had been told, firmly and definitively, that Britain and France weren't having any of their crap right from the get-go, then WWII would have been over before it started.

Negotiating with Hamas is a good thing. If we decide to give them the Sudetenland so we can finally have "peace in our time," that would be a bad thing.
