I played a OCC and won via culture with Alexander on turn 275. Previously I was able to complete the OCC normally at around turn 255. Overall the changes makes the mode more fun.
The tradition policy that gives you money solves the huge problem with money that you would have. This is really important when you wanted to try a domination victory on one city and the unit maintenance cost forced you to only field 4 troops and a general normally. The new national wonder that gives +8 gold also helps immensely.
The growth policy is amazing combined with the easier growth of cities anyways. It really does allow you to make a mega city within a reasonable time. I think I had my city at size 39 when I ended the game.
Having to take policies as they come is something I prefer, but the only issue I have is timing something like scientific revolution so that your not halfway through a tech along the path your aiming for.
There is also the impact of less specialist in science buildings, none in the library or public schools. While I never built the public schools anyways this forces you emphasizes the importance of wonders that contribute great scientists points so that you can birth a good number of scientists in a reasonable amount of time.
Overall, I think most of the changes are for the better and its nice to be able to really grow a mega city that a OCC demands.
