I've noticed that starting territory at Diety with One City Challenge appears much worse than when it is not OCC at the same level. Have I just had bad luck or is this programmed into OCC? Also, is it better on an OCC game to wander and look for a better piece of land to build your one city or go with what the game gives you at the beginning?

That usually is bad luck. If you make a new map from scratch you will most likely get a different starting location. This happens in non-OCC too.

Thanks, then I'm going to assume I've had a shocking run of bad luck on OCC and that it isn't "programmed in" to make OCC even harder.

My 2nd question is, in Diety-level OCC, is it possible to overcome wandering for a few turns to find a better city building location if the starting location sucks? And what is the break-even point? For example, wandering 30 turns is probably a non-starter for OCC since the other civs will practically be in the Medieval era (haha) before you even plant somewhere, but what about 10-15 turns? What have people experienced?

At what point does one say on OCC, OK, I've wandered now for XX turns from my starting location in search of a better location, and nothing--better restart as even if I found something now, it would be hopeless?

You need a very good amount of luck then you play OCC, its alot of things that can go really wrong and start is just one of the things and getting a good one will help but as said its just one thing of many.
