I just started my first OCC (as the Babs, wanted an easy Cultural Victory). I've had too many problems - civs demanding things from me, keeping up in science... blah blah blah

The first thing I did was go straight for all the culture techs (mysticism/lit/etc). So far, I've built the Oracle/GL/Hanging Gardens and of course temple/library/cathedral. Currently researching Engineering. I put research to 10% and am relying on the GL to get me through - so far its been working. But what about after the GL? What do I do then? I'm almost there, please help me.

The 2nd thing is the AI bullying me. The Russians have demanded things from me 3x, and I had to comply as they are the strongest and my neighbor. The Greeks made demands, which I rejected and they declared war. Lucky for me, they're overseas. I've only lost one bowman to probable about 5 Greek Warriors and 4 Swordsman. Lucky me. How do I stop the AI from bullying me?

Feel free to post your OCC tips here. I want this to be an open thread for everything OCC. Thanks!

build some worker and military unit to create a presence....
AI will not attack/bully you if you have stronger arms....

for a culture win, I should say that culture
race during early times is a very bad idea.
it make the AI bully you, so you should head
for expansion. a strong army and then increase
the city count in your border then build culture.

only the main cultural city needs to be building
culture onder all the time. so it is best to have
the other city build workers and troop, it shouldn't
be hard to get the other cities into gear.

I never focus on cultural win
because they come naturally.
I am a heavy wonder builder....
if someone dare to build a wonder....
I will take that city on his! :D

akinkhoo- OCC means One City Challenge. You only have your capital and try to win the game. By UN usually, or by having 20,000 culture points in the city.

Ahhh, the One City Challenge! One of my personal favorites. :) Here are some of the things I have found to be effective when playing OCC games:

1) Time your research carefully. The Great Library will cover you for now (and you should be at 0% science not 10%) but afterwards you will have to keep up on your own. Make sure you have contact with all civs first of all. Wait until everyone has a tech and then buy it at last-civ cheap prices. Since you are Babylon, and a scientific civ, try to be the first to enter each age by cranking up research when you are 1 tech away from the next era. Then sell your free tech for tons of cash. I did this with Russia to good effect in my OCC game.

2) Wonders: Getting the Oracle is key to a 20,000 culture win. The Oracle by itself can produce 5000 of the 20,000 you need to win. The Great Library is also a great call, and Hanging Garden is excellent too. If you are on a costal location, make sure you get the Colossus, which will essentially double your income. I was getting over 200g/turn from just my one city with a marketplace, bank, in a republic, and the Colossus. Your next goal should be either Bach's or Sistine Chapel. And Shakespeare is another big one to shoot for. I had 99 culture/turn at the time I won my OCC game.

3) Military: OK, you can't really defend yourself if attacked, so don't try that hard. Put about 5 or so defenders in your main city and maybe build some fast units for scouting. Other than that, stay away from military. You can't defend yourself against a serious attack so don't sink resources into it.

4) Foreign: The key to winning a OCC game is to stay in good relations at all times with all other civs. This means trading a lot with them; any luxuries you have in excess should be traded. I would also buy luxuries from other civs, as it will improve your relations with them and you can get them super-cheap since you only have one city. If they make demands, GIVE IN! They normally demand at most one turn's income. Compare that to a war that can wipe you out and I know which one I'd choose. :)

Overall, remember that if you get one or two more wonders, it's just a matter of surviving to 1950 or so for you to get your culture win. Good luck! :D
