So my OP Master Assassin Alazkhan was wandering around slaughtering innocents and he found Barnaxus.

Kicked butt, got the capture messages for both the pieces and a golden hammer. This was in the Luchuirp territory.

Next turn, both pieces and hammer were missing. Figured it was because he was hidden nationality and I was in someone elses terrain.

Wandered over to kill Barbatos and did, Staff of Souls dropped, and took it.

Pretty sure if it hadn't been end of turn on killing, I could've taken the hammer (I don't run the 'hit enter to end turn option'), but otherwise it despawned, rather then say vanishing back to my borders or something.

Were you invisible at the time? If so, someone else might have picked it up and walked right through you.

Invisible wears off after combat, and no.

It gave the capture message, and had the 3 red dots on my unit stack (Ala, Pieces, Hammer). Next turn only 1 white dot for Ala.

Copy? I assume you mean Ala's mirror ability? And no, was killed with the main guy. Turn ended, 3 red dots were there, start of new turn only Ala exists.

Mirror code? As in the hall of mirrors balseraph thingy?

Was inside Luchuirp territory, far away from any crazy city.

I mean the code that is unique to Ala and has to do with removing his mirror. Its possible something runs on both him and the mirror or something else that resulted in the equipment disappearing. Regardless its the only unique thing about the unit so it seems a logical start to investigate your problem.

That was my original thought Cow, but couldn't find them anywhere along my borders, nor in my military advisor.

I think because its 0 movement it got nuked.

I think one way or another cow has the right idea. If you capture it, it'll change to your faction, and then the program has to 'deal' with that by pushing it out of their boundaries(I assume you weren't at war). However, since this is an extreme edge case, it may have screwed up 'dealing' with it, and either nuked them, or some other strange thing.

Can you reload, and trying picking it up immediately after killing the guy, before the turn ends?

if the weapons are your nationality but not picked up you should be able to see them in the unit list, and click them to make their location on the map light up

Equipment is dropped by units whenever they die, even if this death is through their duration running out. The equipment would not have disappeared with Alazkan's mirror image

Hidden wears of from combat or casting, but the actual invisible promotion never does.

The equipment is destroyed because of his HN status; the SDK does not allow HN units to capture anything. Thus, any HN unit that "captures" any equipment will destroy it instantly. My modmod will change this, as I decided to allow HN units to capture units as easily as non HN units. Thus you can take equipment, capture slaves, and spawn werewolves and giant spiders with HN units. (I may make HN units give HN to the units thay spawn/capture too, so you won't know what civ is turning all your units to slaves or who controls those werewolves that are rampaging through your territory.) I'm not letting HN units enter rival cities though, so you cannot take territory from a rival without declaring war.

Alazkan would likely destroy equipment even if he weren't HN, albeit not as often. He starts with the Marksman promotion, which causes him to attack the weakest unit in a stack. In order to capture a unit you must move into its tile when you defeat it. Because the stronger units are still there, units with marksman cannot move into the tile, and so the weakest unit (be it equipment, a worker, a slave, whatever) is simply killed. A Marksman can capture equipment, but only if no units whit any combat strength are left to defend the tile. I'll also look into changing the marksman mechanic, so that in my modmod units with no unitcombat will cannot be targeted by the promotion. This would save workers, slaves, equipment, and great people, because it would only let you attck them when they could be captured.

(I'm letting all the great people except adventurers and great commanders be captured. The Great commander promotion will be a prereq for other promotion, so I'm removing the ability to split commanders. I am however going to treat them like uncapturable equipment so that if the commander's unit is destroyed but the rest of the stack is saved that he can be joined to a new unit. Also, I'm adding the BtS military instructor great specialist (+2 xp each to units build in the city) and letting commanders join cities as them. They will also be able to build the Code of Junil, and I may make some Order buildings provide a free military instructor specialist. I made another "Local Legend" specialist that Adventurers can become, which grants +1 xp, +2 Adventurer GPP, and +3 culture. Also, any Grigori unit with hero can cast a spell reverting it to an adventurer, so adventurers can take advantages of promotions available to any unit.)

This isn't true, Hidden Nationality units can capture equipment without a problem.

Aye, because as I said, I captured the staff of souls in Lanun territory and grabbed it before turn ended all fine.

But the hammer/pieces of barnaxus just vanished, not in military list, nothing in the combat log denoting it'd been captured by someone else (also barnaxus was on his own, so nothing was guarding it when I moved onto their tile to capture).

Were you out of money and they went on strike, then quit? :p (I joke)

So, if a Shadow were around, Alazkan wouldn't be able to see him (which really ought to be changed... why can't the game's greatest Assassin see shadow units?)... but if that was the case, since you now OWN the equipment, you should have gotten a notification that they were killed/captured by an enemy unit, even if you couldn't see them.

If they aren't in the Military List, that means they most assuredly do NOT belong to you anymore either.

So yes... they do seem to have simply vanished without a trace then.

Have you attempted to re-create the situation and see if it is repeatable?

probably easy enough to do with a world editor, too busy turning the world to forest to stress over it :P
