# of Civs

I'm definitely in with the "GIVE US MORE CIVS" crowd. The only thing I'd like to point out is that in Civ1 & 2 I think the 7 civs were like... the seven superpowers. There may have been other civs but they were not represented because they were "irrelevant" so to speak. Just a thought.

What I like about the "more civs" idea is the doors that would open in diplomacy. More people to interact with, beg to, bully, and set up treaties with. I found with even a seven player game in Civ1 and 2 I'd only interact with 2 or 3 other civs... the others just hated me from the get go and wouldn't even talk.

Which brings me to an unrelated issue. I hope they put something in Civ3 that was in SMAC... that global council thing... where if you got enough votes you could put up a solar shade or whatever... just more appropriate to "real world" civ. And lets say if you built the united nations wonder you could initiate these meetings or have more votes or something.

Long and short of it is, I'd like to see more interaction with more nations.

I think that you should be able to design your civ a Coat of Arms, and your cities would have a Flag beside the showing your Coat, that would clarify the colors and make it Easier for other Players to regonize who they attacking, Plus I would be really cool to be able to have your Coat of Arms, Kind of like you personal Signature

Goverment tends to strenghten what it would choose to prohibit

I think to put every "Civ" into the game would be a prohibitively complex task.

How would the developers determine what a Civ was and wasn't. I'm sure the cossaks would consider themselves a separate and distinct people and therefore a Civilization, but really they can be lumped in as a subset to the Russian civilization. Same goes for the Celts (and probably Canadians) being lumped in with British. I don't even want to start with all the Germanic peoples!

We may ALLREADY have the best of both worlds though. I mean, in both Civ1 and Civ2 you can create your own Civ name... and in Civ2 you can even decide what the title system is. So HOURAY! We all get what we want in the end!

Now on the subject of flags... how could you determine which Civ got what flag? Leaving the arguement of "what did the Roman/Egyptian/Mongol(etc) flag look like" lets look at it another way. WHICH flag do you pick? I mean the Americans have had HOW many flags over their existance?

However, once again there is a way to keep everyone happy. I believ in the game Worms you can actually import team flags. Perhaps if Civ had an import ability so you could import a (very small) flag you could use any flag you wanted provided you had that nice small image to import.

Wow... did I ever go on a rant!

 well, 16 was obviously not expected at all.

just felt like pulling this out of the archives so everyone can see the guesses at the numbers of civs.

I have to say that I love the idea of major and minor nations (civs) in Imperialism. I think it is very real and fun. We should be able to have ex. 10 major and 20 minor nations. The major ones would be very active and the minor would be more or less just slowly growing and waiting to be “assimilated”. Of course diplomacy and trade would have to play a very important role. I think it would be very hard to play against neighbouring 2 AI expansionist and 2 militaristic civs.
After all, out of 200 countries how many has anything to say on World’s issues. (ex. free trade)
