Off topic posts shouldn't count

This isn't Apolyton, you want to discriminate against posters, go do it there, HERE, we value what people say.

That was along the lines of the point that I was going to make, so I agree! :)

As long as I moderate, the Off Topic won't be so penalized.

More power to the General from Athens!

I agree, OT posts are just as good as any other.
Spam posts/threads get deleted, and the post count of them too.

CFC does not need inter-forum rivalry.

Now way, Flak!

Flak is just sad to see me dropped to the 10th position on the Top 25 Posters list. Not counting the OT posts will push me back to the top 5 again... :satan: :D

Well then that's the newbie's problem. When I was a newbie and wanted advice and answers to Civ questions, I didn't value input from people with gigantic postcounts any more than from people with a postcount that hasn't even reached triple digits. And I've never noticed what you're talking about anyway, although I guess it's very likely that it does occur...

And I don't care much about postcount, but I must say that there is something oddly satisfying about reaching a postcount milestone. ;)

If I may paraphrase, DoM, "As long as they contribute to the community, then they should count." :goodjob:

off-topic is the cornerstone of CFC. if somebody goes to OT just to get alot of posts so they can get their avatar, chances are they'll get sucked in and be a consistant visitor to CFC. of course they should count. post count really doesn't matter, but it also lets you know how to talk to somebody. if it's a newbie, then chances are you have a different reaction then somebody with 2000 posts.

The OT here is well moderated against spam, so there's no reason not to count the posts there.

Furthermore I simply hate the idea of the statistic getting messed up. :D

I spend most of my time in CFC on the OT forum.

Taking away my posts is unfair for me and other posters.
The discussions are just as relevant as those in other forums.

This suggestion is forumism at it's worst!

I agree.

Degrading OT will discourage many posters (myself included) to come to this site.

Resulting in a drop off, and loss of various veteran and useful site stalwarts.

If you want an exodus from CFC, go ahead an discount OT posts.

I guarantee it will be disastrous move.

How about a poll?

I disagree. This forum is called CivFanatics, so the posts that count should be civ-related.

Being a CIV3 forum denizen, you would say that.

I play CIV3 all the time AND post on OT.
It is all under the umbrella of civ.

There is no place for a CFC poster elite clique.
If that is what you dream of, forget it, eddie!

I ONLY come here for the post count.

That's the ONLY reason this forum is alive. ;)

For a history lesson.... Once upon a time, CFC was formed and there were post counts. But people like vlad and Haken and others posted a whole lot and were obsessed with post counts. Well they left and more people came....one day TF turned off the post counts.

The a time went by and people complained....no one cared....then TF turned the post counts back on again. No one knows why...(at least I don't) and they are still on today.

There....now you've learned something. ;)

I remember this! I am often heard referring to those times as the "No Post Count Ages." A dark, swarthy period of CFC history indeed.

Although post count may not matter all that much, there is a common goal to newbies to reach 300 posts. With already quite a few people spamming just to reach the 300 custom avatar limit, making OT posts not count would simply make it worse. Thered be an overflow of spam, and people would be posting more and more posts with only smileys.

I remember back in October and November when I used to think that OT posts should not count because I always posted in civ3 forums. Now I only lurk there now, and am really coming to CFC for the OT forums. Just goes to show that its all personal bias ;)

Besides, what if someone with a custom avatar had 350 posts but 100 of them were in OT? That would cause a huge server problem for sure.

Thanks for the history lesson, Corn. ;)

I thought I had missed this event but was this simply when Post count was displayed on every post and instead you had to just view the member list?
