Official E3 "Gameplay Walkthrough" Video

Interesting that the affinity counter in the top right corner tracks all affinities, not just your dominant one. I wonder if pursuing an affinity has effects even if it's not your dominant one, if so, it could make for interesting combinations.

According to the German article, in addition to the military benefits which have already been discussed at length, affinities will also provide passive bonuses.

The example they gave was reaching level 1 in Supremacy will cause aliens to ignore your explorer units, rather than attacking on sight.

I agree with most of what you've said. Puppeting a city would mean no affinity change.
But the city shouldn't immediately become a Supremacy style city the moment you annex it. A process of conversion should automatically start once you've annexed it, but during this process, which would last for several turns, that city is very inefficent. The process could be sped up but at cost. Aspects of this could be affected by the adoption of certain Virtues. which could speed the conversion process or reduce the cost of speeding conversion.

Actually, on the 2k forums thread someone mentioned that Could be because this is still an Alpha build.

If they haven't gotten city-specific Affinities in yet, it is possible they may be in the middle of putting it in (after all they also don't have the correct civ labels yet on cities either)

The gameplay value of religion was that not ALL your cities were the same.. to get the benefits of your religion you had to spread it.

I don't see any fun in spreading religion to your non-religious cities. Wait for missionary, spread. There's no risk in moving on your own territory and so on.

Fun things start when you start acting against other religions , but as I said, advanced espionage could do these things better.

The point was a greater cost for conquering 'different' cities (ie forcing Affinity change, or tolerating it)

I'm surprised they've kept the annex, puppet, raze dynamic. Not that I'm complaining, I just figured they wouldn't bother to keep it. Otherwise, things look quite cool flavor-wise. I would assume the screaming people during bombards is a placeholder. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, but it's too familiar and we could use something new for the new game.

What would you suggest? Cheering? Party noises?

Targeted city is Supremacy: the sound of sizzling electronics and buzzing short circuits
Targeted city is Harmony: squishing
Targeted city is Purity: same old screaming

I'm pretty sure there are other methods of increasing conquered cities cost, considering we have a difference between conquer and puppet. And I don't get why conquering cities of your affinity should be easier.

Or even a new set of screams or the noise of explosions. It's just too... Civ5 and reminds you of it, that's breaking the immersion to some degree.

"for placeholder only" would be my guess. it is too common on repetitive images, to be in the game at release (would create too much confusion for the player if everything looks the same).

I rather think the Gameplanet crew did not play i, but has been shown the same video (and i don't know how he links the gene vault to the ressource pods quest, like he did in the article).

Samatar had afflvl 1 units in this game while the Kavitha had afflvl 3 already, which made the fight impossible for Samatar. It will already be hard to defend against a +1 level enemy, but against +2 level seems impossible. Militarily is seems a bit too strong for my tastes just to focus down on affinity levels.

I hope that the map has either been edited to show more things to the audience, or that the faction AI's get tweaked a lot to better keep up. Things i suspect to have been added by editor: the gene vault (just a feeling, when looking at the tech web, i have no real proof), the cmdr unit (the player hasnt reaserched it yet, but has two of them nevertheless), the sabr (same reason, but not so sure like with the cmdr). The player also seemed awfully progressed for just turn 75, affinity and tech wise.

Affinity makes sense, as the KP are supposed to specialize in that.

But they're also supposed to be weak in science, so maybe you're right about things being added in the editor.

:agree:

What they could do is either different sounds for the affinity they are taking over, or if they really wanna make it fun, screams in different languages or accents. :p

which would make the KP a military rush faction, basically Miriam.

Except that they're also described as being bad at military and infrastructure. Assuming infrastructure means "going wide", that's just about the worst possible combination of disadvantages for a war faction.

Looking at their strengths, I think they're actually meant to be a Poland/Byzantium type faction. Stack lots of passive bonuses on top of each other using culture and affinity, leverage that into victory.

In regards to the City screams thing, why not just replace the screams with the sound of explosions and sirens?

The screams make it sound like the place is full of people in togas running and panicking as barbarians attack, as opposed to a futuristic settlement with civil defense facilities.

Hm...I guess the clothes style when reach the minimum affinity is up to the faction that player choose. I thought it will be completely new model.

By the way, Samatar's harmony seems like Supremacy. I was like "really, isn't it supremacy and something like that?". Also the dev forgot to show some sample of clothing for Supremacy. :(

I agree all above. I think for now it's just nothing but use the old voice to reduce the cost a bit. If they decide to use old screaming noise I think it will be a bad logic, like Borderl***s sequel that is just nothing but add oxygen, laser gun and just small upgrade.

Hope they fix this soon. Also ,I want to add for supremacy and purity. Mix with above and robotic screaming for Supremacy and normal screaming and falling concrete. :p
