Official Message from Fireaxis on the patches and Win2000 and XP.

We have discovered some compatibility issues with the v1.16f patch and Windows 2000 and XP. If you are running Windows 2000 or XP, please do not download or install this patch. We are working to address the issue and a 2000/XP compatible version should be posted very shortly. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Windows 95/98/ME users should not be affected, and should be able download and install the patch without any problems. "


So there you have it. Thats straight from their patch section over at Fireaxis.Evidently The pact to patch the patch, was only limited in its sucess. Hehehe I can vouch for that.

well I dunno, but. I got mine from your link. Still no working. My XP machine wont play the game at all with either patch. It just wont start civ3 period.Had to uninstall and then reinstall. at least I can play now. I did this 5-6 times giveing it the benifit of Doubt , but no Dice.

Yes. The patch on civ3.com is still the old version.

Well it doesnt matter becuase Me among others Got absolutly Zero Improvement from the second patch. I cant play Civ III with either patch Period. I was reading over at Apolyton or what ever they are called, and there is a toip on this too. So they may as well leave that message over at the Civ III site
