The time has come to consider having "sanctioned" offline game sessions. Presently, sessions may legally be offline, but some potential DPs think that they would get complaints if they actually played offline.

The chat is not the social event it was at its height. This is due in part to the horrible hours certain DPs must play, myself in particular but sometimes others. Many "chats" result in the DP speaking to an empty room, so the chat log is nothing more than a glorified turn log. It's also the result of many of the "core chat players" having left the game or lowering their participation level for various reasons.

I would like to hear opinions for or against making it "normal" to play offline sessions -- preferably "for" :mischief:. This term may be a very meager one if we're stuck with only players who think they can handle online play.

I dont have a problem with it if its well documented with a autolog or a self log.

I was one who showed interest in offline DP so I really dont count as an opinion on this. I wil not DP if there will be complaints about offline sessions.

You'll hear no complaints from me about offline sessions per se. DPs playing the save offline are still bound by the same laws as DPs playing the save online. Legally posted instructions that are not followed should be addressed by the citizenry whether the session is online or offline.

I think it would be great to try a term of offline game play sessions and see it if increases forum participation. Any DPs playing offline should remember that session summaries are just as important as the detailed play logs. Some of us do not have the time nor inclination to rummage through the details to find an aspect of the game that interests us. Summaries can help us to keep abreast of what's going on in our country leaving us more time to specialize in areas we want to focus on.

No complaints here.

I concur with donsig about the summaries. With minimal effort a 1-2 paragraph summary can really help highlight the events, and can be done in an RP-style.

actually it would be great to see summaries for online play too...:)

Need nice clear instructions. Shoddy instructions worked back in the day when game decisions were also made during the chat but not these days.

The tables must have shifted somewhat since I still feel that there should be an online play.

But I will be willing to change my stance to have both online and offline play to be an option for the DP to consider. Offline would be good for those of us who are busy with RL issues such as school, work, as well as relationships.

CG..I dont think it was going to make it madatory to play on way or the other...the option is open now. I think this was more of would the citizens throw a fit if the session was offline. IN my mind some seesiosn should be played online and some offline, that way the citizens who favor one of the other are not left out.

I have always preferred on-line sessions, but Civ 4 is different from Civ 3. The system requirements mean that not enough people who are prepared to DP are able to successfully run an online session. Add to that people not attending the chats and we might as well have off-line sessions than no session at all.

The decision of online or offline should be made by the DP up next. because they are the one that are going to be doing the playing.
