Oh come on!!!

It's covered in the manual, I believe. There's a whole paragraph about how you might want to build a city in the hills because although it has less food, it gets a higher defensive value.

I updated the civulator to use the binomial theorem. You can't get the average survivor's hp, but I don't think anybody was too interested in that anyway. Thanks for pointing out what shoulda been obvious to me.

Xeres:

Ah found it on page 52. Yep your right. Since this applies then the river rule would probably also apply.

Man...with all the diferent bonuses....the ball is really in the defenders court for Civ3.

P.S. Excellent work on the calculator with the last few changes. Now you only have the fun of trying to figure out how the game calculates bombardments and how it determines who gets hit, which I will leave entirely to you...heh.

Xerxes314 is it OK if I transfer your work into a executable program.

i may also need your help
:D

Sure, go for it. I didn't do anything particularly clever here. Whatever helps the community.

Here it is so far

'Under' combat

I have just one question

What are the value of attack hitpoints for vetran, conscript, etc? Is this where hit-poibts are determined?

I gotta agree. I just had a battle boondoggle that ticked me off! Playing the middle level (er, can't remember what that is offhand..) as the Egyptians. 3 other civs (4 actually, but the chinese wiped out india early.) Rome, China, and Greece. I was doing pretty well. Had my cities all consolidated and even managed to absorb a couple of china's cities. Then greece attacks me. I had a mutual protection pact with rome, but he was useless. Greece sends ONE (1) regular warrior up to one of my border cities (size 7, built on a hill) which contained 2 fortified Musketmen and a fortified spearman (all veterans). You can guess what happened next. That's right! That puny, regular warrior proceeded to open a can of whup-ass on all my veteran, fortified, in a city, on a hill, high-tech units. Then he took the dity and burned the thing down. He took exactly ZERO damage.
Who do they use for warriors? Conan? If so, what tech do I gotta get to research HIM? If not, then there's GOTTA be something seriously flawed with this combat system!
I'm thinking it wouldn't have helped if I'd had a modren armor unit in there.... he still would have taken it. grr...
