I take one day a week where I don't do anything but what I want to do. That means not only no work/school/whatever, but no running errands, no returning non-social calls, no doing the laundry, etc.
It makes the other six days of the week much more hectic, but I've found it's worth it.
Now, having said that, I still rarely play games anymore. Part of that is because my computer is very old (AthlonXP 1800+, ATI Radeon 9600, 512MB RAM) and won't play the cool new stuff (so I still haven't played HL2 either), but it's also because I just don't have the same interest level in it that I used to.
I have recently started up a new game of the first Half-Life, and it's still a blast. But when I have free time, I'm much more likely to watch a movie than play a game these days . . .
