Old GOTM

It may be possible. :hmm:

Please go to the results page for the game you want to play. Once there, above the results table, find a link that says "Download the WorldBuilder File". Download this file and save it in your D:\My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\Saves\WorldBuilder folder (Note that you might have your document folder on the C:\ drive.)

Start your bts game and, in the single player menu, choose "Play a Scenario". When the next screen comes up, you should see a list of WorldBuilder saves on the left hand side. Scroll down and find the save name and load it. It will ask you some questions about options, I think you can just click through.

I am unsure what changes will be made by the differences in the versions as I have not tried it recently.

Just to note, trying this with bts to vanilla is probably not going to work because of the civs in bts that are not in vanilla.

Good luck. :)

:goodjob:

It can get even better, now that I'm sure it works. If you like the BUFFY Mod, you can load that before importing the WorldBuilder save. That allows you all the game aids that BUFFY supplies.

Good Luck and have fun! :)

Wow! Can't believe that actually works. I would have thought different releases are mutually incompatible. You actually get to play the game with full BTS 3.19 features?

I would guess that that usually works, but isn't guaranteed. On the whole, BtS worldbuilders are identical in format to vanilla and Warlords worldbuilders - except of course that there are lots of extra things that can be referred to in BtS that wouldn't be recognized in vanilla or Warlords. However there may be some things that have changed rather than been added to (offhand, I think the representation in worldbuilder of the name of one of the Chinese leaders changed at some point), so it's possible that kind of thing might prevent BtS reading some worldbuilders without tweaking the worldbuilder in notepad first.

But I'm glad to see in general this works - could give a whole new lease of life to some of the older games that I'm sure many of us fondly remember playing.

Thanks for the info re: Buffy but I use Bug in all my games and that works fine in the old GOTM as well (Blue Marble to). It was interesting to play the game again, as I also use Better AI (my BtS is fully patched plus BetterAI) as the strategy for killing Alex in the early game turned out different to how I remember (strangely easier, but that may be about having more experience that anything else). But yeah, played the game through and enjoyed it despite knowing roughly the map layout.

I believe the Praets were nerfed a bit from when the GOTM originally came out but Alex seemed less prepared to defend himself this time around.
