I'm just trying to attempt a OCC, but what I'd like to know is what is the aim of the OCC. Do you try and get spaceships first? Also, with the OCC, can you ever attack an enemy city?. Is there a way of emptying out a city after taking it over?

The aim is to win by what ever means. Spaceship, cultural or diplomacy are probably 'easier' than conquest, and domination is impossible of course.

You can go to war: Just make sure you raise any city you capture. You also have to rebuff any city that you aquire culturally (although I think abandoning the next turn is also acceptable).

The most likely OCC victory is cultural when the city reaches 20,000 in culture.

Almost everyone of the OCC is playing in was a 20000 culture victory.

I've seen an diplomatic (higher level game).

I don't think spaceship is practical - How can you build 10 parts from one city before the rest of the world builds a space ship?

Spaceship is doable in smaller map sizes and lower levels - you can keep the AI from building the ship by force.

Aside from that, UN is eaasiest, since you just need to build the UN, get MPP with lots of civs and provoke an attack on you by your biggest rival a turn before the vote.....

Im interested in try the OCC in the next game I play, I think Ill be the Babs... culture will be easier to come by - but I have one question : what are the qualifications to getting a diplomatic win ?

Ah nevermind, I found it:

OR

Diplomatic Victory
The diplomatic victory condition is enabled after the United Nations wonder has been built. Once built, the UN will meet periodically to vote on a leader. Any civ that receives a majority of votes from the U.N. council wins the game. The catch here is that in order to even be on the U.N. council (and thus eligible to be elected U.N. leader), you must either control 25% of the world's territory or population. The civilization who builds the United Nations wonder automatically gains a permanent council position. There are always at least 2 candidates -- the civilization with the next largest population is used if there would only be one candidate.

But actually now that I think of it, that still doesnt tell me exactly what you need to have done during the game to win by Diplo Victory...

Do you need to have the best rep? Most peace for most amount of turns? Not be at war? What?

HAHAHA! Someone try Conquest Victory in an OCC! See how long you survive!!!

On chieftain level, on a small sized map, it's very doable. On a huge map and/or higher difficulty levels, yes it would be very difficult.

But actually now that I think of it, that still doesnt tell me exactly what you need to have done during the game to win by Diplo Victory...

Best Reputation is the best answer. You can war, but it really helps if you have allies, and war with the civ that seems to be causing problems on everyone else (the bully). MPP's help get other civs on your side. Trade with civs often. If some civs are at war and you are not involved in the war, watch who you trade with. Even though you aren't militarily involved, you would be treated as if you are supporting the civ you trade with. In one game I had both Egypt and Germany attack Greece. Both were polite or Gracious with me. However, later on Egypt and Germany waged war on each other. And since I was trading luxuries with Germany, Cleo wasn't too happy with me.

If there is some civ that is way behind in tech and doesn't have anything of value to give you, donate him techs, that will certainly help you get that civs vote.

NEVER raze any cities! You don't necessarily lose votes of other civs, but of the civ whose city you razed, you will never get their vote.

If in the modern era, if some civ doesn't have horses or iron (useless at this point of the game) donate them.

Just before the vote donate techs/luxuries to all civs (especially the civs that may be undecided on who to vote for).
