If you had to play a game of Civ to save your life and you had to take the first map you rolled with no re-loads who would you play and why ?

settings as follows .

diety
marathon
huge random map
all standard settings except aggressive AI
all victory conditions enabled .
no Inca

this could be the last game of Civ you ever play so choose wisely .

I`ll take Sumeria . A dog in the late game but at least I`m a chance to get there . It`s the flexibility that I`m sold on

starting techs rock solid , a UU that has rush potential and also great against barb cities , the early great spy could be the ultimate life saver if I fall behind and creative+ zigs has genuine REX potential if land is available .

Ok nothing much to say about protective here (possibly handy with agressive AI) but I still think a pretty solid choice .

Honourable mentions to Hatchesput , Shaka , Mehmed and Cyrus

I'd die for sure, but I'd probably go Pericles.

Philosophical and Creative for a strong early game, starts with hunting for archery, and the UU can hold its own against any ancient era attacker.

Gilgamesh is a very solid choice. I'd also consider Sitting Bull (CG3, Drill 1 archers in the ancient era!)

definietly 2 solid choices there aswell . Your Sitiing Bull train of thought had me thinking about the Mayans too . I love the beeline opportunities with the UU meaning you could skip Archery , monarchy even iron working on the way to constuction and with financial not take forever getting there

No matter how good you are, this is a massive dice roll. Huge map with default # of civs gives the AI a TON of land unopposed. If the map bottoms out with a RNG screw 1 guy is going to get 20% of the world's land or so, and on huge that's like what, ~50 cites?! BEFORE war, mind you. These are trash settings.

That said, put a gun to my head and I'd at least TRY :p. Some thoughts:

- Barbarians are going to be unbelievably annoying on huge/mara/deity. You're going to want something that helps you survive.
- If you get a 2000 BC to 1500 BC DoW, you're dead. Literally, I guess :p.
- You need something to keep up with AI tech, which *is* nerfed somewhat by AGG AI, that is if you're going to compete fairly...
- But there is no reason to compete fairly. Grab apostolic palace and gogogogo diplo victory ASAP.

Ram of Egypt. I'd use the UB to gun for a prophet ASAP. That prophet bulbs theology (you need mono, writing). Build AP in christianity, flip into something else afterward. Spam defenders, sell theo off to avoid war or gift cities if you must. Then, spread the religion to mostly only people who like you, giving 1/city on cities of AIs that do not.

Archery will help survive the barbs, even if it will suck. Just splat 5-6 on hills near the city to protect tile improvements.

Bam. You are the only eligible guy for an AP victory. If the AI with most of the religion is at +8 or better, insta-win.

It's not a guaranteed win, but if you're going to force me to play russian roulette I'm going to take as many bullets out of the gun as possible.

I would play as Julius Caesar. Praetorian ftw! I would still lose though. Luckly I don't think I will ever have to play Civ to save my life lol.

I'd pull a kobiashi maru and hire someone to program the interface to recognize "deity" to give me "settler" bonuses.

Then I'd man up and pick RANDOM!!!

I don't want to hear about your no-win situations!

Mansa Musa of Mali.

Standard settings mean Random Events are on... coupled with Deity/Marathon this makes me very scared of barbarians. I want to be able to defend myself reliably.
Aggressive AI adds to that, and also means that I will appreciate Spiritual to work the diplomacy.

Ramesses would be my number 2 choice - there's the chance of cleaning up with an early rush or of putting the game away with Apostolic Palace cheese. Also Spiritual.
