OoS (Also what happened to the civplayers fix?)

From what I've read the civplayers fix seems to be fairly controversial, but I'd at least like to give it a try, since I'm at my wit's end here. Is there any place I can download it, since their site seems to be having issues (the download section is a big list of errors and nonfunctional links)?

And is there anything else I can do? Both myself and the guy I play with have tried reinstalling, reinstalling to the default directories, holding shift when starting, turning off random events, etc etc etc etc, but the game always seems to go out of sync around the modern era (although one time it went OOS a bit before that).

Strangely, sometimes the error has gone away on its own without us doing anything at all, and sometimes having the person who isn't hosting rejoin makes it go away temporarily, but other times, even if the host saves and rehosts loading that save, the OOS message comes back within a few turns.

I think maybe once or twice doing the above made it go away for a while...

In any event, the last time the game went OOS, I was at war with an AI who had a bunch of Carracks, who had used them to attack me amphibiously a few turns prior to the OOS. I'm fairly certain he was not attacking me at the actual time of the OOS though. Could that have caused the issue, or...?

*edit* I just rehosted with both of us holding shift while starting up the game... as soon as the AI dropped 2 catapults at once onto my shore from a carrack, the game went OOS. He confirmed that he didn't do anything, and neither did I- something happened during the AI's turn. *edit*

I'm willing to try just about anything at this point. Do you think reverting to a prior patch would help? I read that 3.17 introduced a lot of problems.. maybe switching to Vanilla Civ 4? Or Warlords? Or playing over Hamachi?

We've tried gamespy and direct ip... no go.

Could raring up all my XML files and sending them to him help in some way? Sacrificing a goat? Praying to the flying Spaghetti monster?

We're both using Civ 4 with Warlords and BtS installed, and are trying to play BtS. We're both running Windows Vista. And no, no mods are installed.

I have no experience of multi-player and you'll probably get more help for that in the multi-player forum. What OS are you using? There are some reports in that forum of OOS when one player is using W7 in which case running the game in XP compatability mode seems to help. You also mention going back to an earlier patch as you'd heard 3.17 introduced problems - the latest patch is 3.19 and if you are not using that I would install that, I would not bother trying earlier patches. Some people like Hamachi from what I have read, but I have no idea if that helps or not. You will get a different error message if you have incompatible XML files.
