This is really getting to me. About 3 out every 5 times I try to load CFC in Opera, it freezes. At the bottom of the screen, where is shows what information is incoming, its always loading some kind of ad-related thing: Amazon.com and other ads. It freezes there, and maybe a minute later I have to use CTRL-ALT-DELETE. This happens slightly less often when I turn pictures off.

What's up with this? Anyone else getting this problem???

I'm using Opera 7, Windows ME. It just did it twice more - one from "mediamr.ugo.com" and again from "amazon.com". Damm this is annoying. Please don't make me switch back to IE/Netscape..

Oh, and how do you turn ads off? I looked in preferences, didn't see anything...

Opera is great for features but terribly inconsistant from site to site. That is why I dumped it.Some sites were lightning fast while many others were brutally slow.Especially loading images.

Mozilla is the only browser I use, aside from the odd visit to MS where only IE will work.I find it(mozilla) to be the most consistant of all browsers. Now that the latest build has a pop up stopper of sorts.it has everything I want. And I like the fire breathing dinosaur ;)

You turn the ads off by buying the darn thing or..cough cough key cough cough gen.

No - buying Opera is how you get rid of the banner ad at the top. He means disabling ads on web pages, which is done by hitting the F12 key, which gives a pop-up menu.

oh ok.Unfortunately, that also disables good pop ups like the upload file thingy here.

Well that's because in order to prevent pop-up ads, Opera (and most other pop-up stoppers for that matter) will disable the javascript that opens up windows.

No, I have pop-ups enabled. I mean that I'm using a program to remove the banner ads. (Admuncher)

cgannon64: Are you running Opera 7.02? There were minor stability fixes and document viewing updates that might help you. The update came out on Feb 25.

Smash: Opera 6 and below had inconsistent loading times because they didn't handle DOM well (barely at all) and because of the way some sites are coded. Opera 7 is much better for this, but has some unrelated issues that have the same effect. These issues arose because Opera 7 was totally rebuild from the ground up and doesn't use the same engine as 6 so I expect they should be fixed soon.

I'm not running Opera 7.02.

BTW, I've discovered that I can avoid the whole problem 100% of the time by turning off images when I first load the page, sidestepping the ads.

Oh, and about blocking popups: do "Block Unrequested Popups" only. Works like a charm, and still allows the Upload folder to come up.

I never blamed Opera for it's inconsistant performance.I blame those that make the stuff for IE specifically. The internet is not Opera freindly. And,no,identifying as IE never helped. Its getting better though.

You can edit the Opera user string reference in the exe file to identify as a different browser, which will help a lot of sites load properly.

If you want to know how to do it I can PM you, Opera company doesn't really like having it posted.

I have a second exe backed up with the browser identifiation of M$IESUCKS, which I copy in for troublesome pages. :D

Running Opera 7.01 - no problems here....only on the time reporting site at work. I use IE for that - It stopped working after I upgraded to 7.02 now that I think of it.......

I downloadded 7.02 yesterday, but it's in English:( Hope the translation is done soon.
My mousescroll thing didn't work in 7.02, but for some reason it started working when I changed the (mouse)setting to word97 emulation.
Two things that annoy me that worked in 6:
When clicking a dropdown list, the selected alternative is in the bottom and not the top, so I have to scroll down the list.
The many alternatives (skins, top, bottom, off...) on the popupmenu when you right click a toolbar, or a tab.

Using 7.02 at home now - find that Opera crashes on some pages - a lot. Also have found that you need to change to identifying as Opera to get the correct formating on some pages, like www.comcast.net <- Not the main page but the some of the sub pages after logging in.

Bah, I'm still using IE 6.0 with a combination of other progs to aid browsing, it could be better, but it works and displays everything pretty much correctly.

Always upgrade to the latest version. There is apparently a big security bug in 7.0 version before 7.03. And I know some pages have trouble loading and showing properly, but I think most work very well now.

And cgannon64: Windows ME isn't exactly the most stable and feilproof OS out there. Even Microsoft has said that it isn't good enough!

The changelog is here, and I see no mention of any big security bug. There was also no mention of this on the Opera forums. May I ask where you heard this from?
