Operation Overlord

The Battle for Galati-
On a warm May afternoon, Soviet bombers could be heard approaching the city walls of Galati. A fierce barage of artillery utterly destroyed the walls and began pounding the defenders of the city. Then the bombers began dropping bombs all over the city, somehow managing to hit only the armed defenders while leaving civilians alone.
When the dust had settled, the fierce Soviet armored divisions began their assault. In viscious street to street fighting, the Soviet tanks, from light wimpy ones to some elite T-34's all participated in crushing the shell-shocked defenders of Galati.

Final tally: USSR: 1 conscript tank destroyed, 1 elite and 1 reg tank redlined, 1 reg tank loses 1 hp; 2 conscript tanks promoted to regular

Germany: 5 Inf lost (including one that got promoted killing the conscript tank), 1 panzer lost, 2 artillery captured, explorer liberated

Other action: Captured worker near Constanta, Redlined units next to Cernovcy (killed infantry), captured artillery near Kosice (used it to blow roads). Used captured artillery in Galati to destroy walls in Ploesti.

I can't do screenies :( my computer is screenie unfriendly

Yes, you can post screenies here. Just make sure you don't accidentially post shots of what you don't want the enemy to see...such as tech, money, location of your troops.

Redlined all three British tanks north of Kiel. Wish i had marines, that artillery stack was sooo tempting to take and disband :D
Bombers cut roads in Russia - taste of your own medicine :p
Lost a Panzer attacking a Russian cav by Memel, cav killed by infantry.
Killed Russian Guerilla near Konigsberg.

Another good month for the BEF. We were unchecked in our bombings and shellings. We continued to bomb Kiel and the roads around it. The German city has many defenders as no matter how much bombing we did they wounded units were always replaced by full strength units.

In the south, we bombed some Italian units trying to move towards Athens. This will turn out to be a futile endeavor because by the time they reach the city they will be 1 hp each. We also bombed the southern Italian landmass again cutting off their rubber. And perhaps the best news of all...we bombed Tripoli again. Why is this good news you ask? Because we were so successful in our bombings that we destroyed the airport and barracks. Italy can no longer air-lift units to Tripoli and the wounded units can no longer heal. It is only a matter of time now before my wounded units heal and the city will become English.

We did get a plea from Italy to stop bombing them. Is this perhaps an attempt to leave the Axis team and join the Allies?

News from the Moscow Moderator to his British ally: I hope not, since, in this particular version of the scenario, Italy has no choice but to fight it out against France and Britain. I, on the other hand, have full leverage to beat on anyone I so choose. I am currently in the process of modifying this, that will come in version 2.

June turn:
The battered, but not beaten, resistance guerillas captured a worker unit (no doubt slaves of the imperialist Nazis) and freed them from their chains (unit was next to Szeged).

Battle for Ploesti-
The Soviet offensive began in earnest when the tank commanders realized that they could not attack the infantry on the key oil resource next to the city. There was a Panzer Army defending the city! A daunting task, but our great Soviet commanders are up to any task presented to them! First, the captured German artillery was put to great use upon the German panzers (taking 4 hp off the unit). Next, our bombers did their job, however, many pilots will be undergoing 'retraining' in gulags in the far east for a few years as they missed the targets most of the time. We then attacked with a Regular tank unit which did great damage (but was ultimately destroyed) and then an elite tank unit which destroyed the Panzer army, taking 3hp of damage itself! :goodjob: Next, another elite tank destroyed the last defender (a tank) taking 1 hp of damage and capturing the city!

Meanwhile, the great Soviet navy is still making its mark, this time by shelling the Italian occupied city of Thessaloniki, doing 2 hp of damage to an inf unit.

Some bombers also cut the roads leading from Western Finland to Helsinki.

Killed all the tanks in Ploesti and recaptured the city - no losses
Killed a lot of things in Galati - i didn't count sorry, but all the infantry and a lot of tanks that started redlined. Redlined tank on top for you there now, although next turn some more Russian conscript infantry will move in to be slaughtered. I have oil back [dance]

Redlined all of British arty stack in Denmark, except one 2/3 infantry.
Redlined one ship there too. Be nice sitting targets for my U-Boats.

Not very nice stack approaching Hrodna and Brest-Litvosk so we sold everything off there and left.

Enjoy Modern Armour next turn :mischief:

This was a quiet month for the BEF. Our intentions are unknown to the enemy in order to surprise them. We did our usual bombings of Tripoli where we killed 3 citizens, Cherbourg where we destroyed the harbor, southern Italy to cut off their luxuries, and Kiel where we wounded many troops. We also bombed those three Italian tanks heading towards Athens. I now have more defenders in Athens than he has attackers, and all his attackers are 1 hp each so he will lose those tanks soon.

The remnants of our T-34 tanks division had to retreat from Galati. We took all the building material and women and wine with us...so have fun with the place.... :D

Meanwhile, we bombarded the two (freaking two!!! how many of the buggers do you have???) armies outside of Galati. Then our bombers went in search of decent roads to bomb. In the everpresent update of the short story "Let's See How Long it Takes for the Germans to Figure Out How to Defend Their Oil Lines"...we bombed as far away as the bombers could reasonably be expected to reach...it seems to have payed off...we'll know next turn.

We took back Brestlitovsk and the other city, which were abandoned except, inexplicably, for two artillery which the Germans were nice enough to leave for us in the city of Brestlitovsk. Since they were nice enough to leave them there for us, we send July presents into Warsaw with those artillery pieces. AFAIK, it only did minor damage to some units.

We attacked with artillery in Helsinki, but did only minor damage to units.

Russia

Captured undefended Galati.
Killed all the reg infantry outside the city.
Damaged but lost against Infantry by Constanta.
Daring infantry in Helsinki retreated one tank and killed another to capture Soviet artillery which then bombarded Soviet infantry and tanks.
Killed 4 infantry in Cernovcy.
Bombarded infantry hovering near border.
Finally sent some flak to guard oil road

Allies

Bombarded your big ship stack a lot by Kiel - now the bombers and subs can take them out.

The BEF has not advanced any further into German territory. It appears as if Germany has put a lot of effort into keeping Kiel. No matter how many units we bomb, a strong well rested unit is there to take its place. We did bomb more roads around it cutting it off from the rest of cities. In addition, we destroyed the bank in Cherbourg. We also captured a worker outside Turku in Sweden.

We also bombed roads in southern Italy again as well as Tripoli. We also destroyed the barracks in Palermo.

The noble Soviet military fought a delaying action near Galati. Two infantry divisions (both conscript) valiantly charged the huge German garrison in order to allow the artillery to redeploy (get their butts out of there). Sadly, one of the divisions was eliminated, the other destroyed a panzer division. :crazyeye:

A Cossack Troop wiped out the evil theives who stole our artillery outside of Helsinki.

The panzers outside of Cernovcy were easily destroyed and the artillery was redeployed for later use.

Finally: the marketplace of Ploesti was hit by some stray bombs...we hope that nobody was buying any eggs at the time. There was no noticeable drop in population, so we are not too worried.... :mischief:

Ok, it's resent...post if you still don't get it.

Russia

A Russian infantry was killed by a Panzer by Galati, which is now empty of German soldiers as the position was seen as untenable. An infantry was killed in between Kosice and Lvov. Tanks bombarded and one killed in Brest-Litovsk. Tank retreated outside Lasi. Infantry killed by Constanta.

Denmark

Another Battleship redlined in stack. Most of artillery stack defenders bombarded again.

Sweden

Artillery bombard and injure all tanks and the infantry in British stack. One tank destroyed. Russian paratroopers attacked, one killed, one injured and promoted.
