Operation Seelowe.

Here is the latest Units file for Seelowe. It remains "a work in progress". The main development is the relocation of the Brandenburger (commando) unit to the partisan slot, as per Minipow01's revelation yesterday. The Brandenburgers were historically tasked with taking out key British coastal fortifications, and this will allow that operation to take place in the scenario. Destroying the factories and port units through air or ground attack reduce overall British production. The Kreigsmarine sailor is a diplomat unit with restricted functions intended to clear (bribe) mines. Otherwise, I replaced the swastikas with more appropriate military symbols. This is the latest draft Units file, including several placeholders, and I welcome any suggestions.

The map is now fully populated and saved as a scenario - I'm beginning the events.

Thanks for asking. I'm working on the British events. The challenge is to create and move reserve units to counter-attack a German landing or landings. I want to give maximum flexibility to the German player re: invasion locations, while ensuring the British reaction corresponds appropriately and effectively. So, its a lot of event programming and fiddly stuff, trying to make it work out properly. I haven't got to the Royal Navy reaction events, which may also be somewhat complex.

I'm planning to use tech tree options for the German to plan his mobilization - making choices between mobilizing Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe, or Kreigsmarine formations, including choosing to build specialist units and additional shipping. An example of a choice would be to mobilize an air landing division first, or take the next step in building the Graf Zeppelin, or the Bismarck.

Just wondering, does the campaign go along the length of the UK, like if the Hun takes London, the UK command will keep moving North?
I notice that the Glasgow docks are present, meaning Churchill will make his last redoubt in Scotland...EG: "Fight to the last Scot!" :D

Gareth, thank you for the German ground units collection. Excellent work as usual, and very useful. I've incorporated several of them for AA defense and glider-borne troops. I've decided to use vehicles to represent motorized infantry, which includes the SS unit. The Opel truck or the SdkFz 251 are the obvious choices. I'm wondering about using another vehicle to differentiate the SS from the regular Wehrmacht. Would it be accurate to use the SdkFz 7 or 11 for motorized SS infantry? I know the SdkFz 7 was a heavy hauler, but I think it also carried infantry.

It seems that glitches are routine for my scenarios these days. I can't get the objective cities to display, either when you click them on the map, or on the "Find City" list. It's an objective based scenario. Does anyone have any ideas?

I've run into weird glitches with ToTPP and city names... I wonder if it is all connected... I did a reinstall, but the files all worked when transferred to the new install. You might try that?

I'm not sure Tech. I thought the sdkfz 7 and 11 were just used for towing artillery and mounting AA guns but I guess troops could ride in them. What about a LSSAH badge with the Hanomag 1/2-track to differentiate it?

Yeah, I thought the big 1/2 tracks were a bit of a stretch. I wanted to work them in, but I'm sure there will be other opportunities. I'll use the 251, though with the SS insignia, because I think it's more recognizable, but thank you. I'll use the Opel for the motorized divisions, and the 251 for the motorized infantry rgts. in the Panzer divisions. Similarly, I'll use the Bren Carrier for the infantry in the British armoured divisions.

For the new units (thank you again), I've got the Flak38 and the GebG 36 7.5 for the falschirmjaeger and air-landing divisions and the Flak36 as light AA attached to divisions and at airfields. Sound right? Do you know if the 7.5 artillery could be transported on both gliders and in Ju-52s? It looks a bit...heavy.

Ciaran, here's a screen capture of the map:

edit: in anticipation of someone's question - It's Scapa Flow.:mischief:
Acknowledging his military and political power on the issue would be VERY limited in any case, what position would Eamon DeValera's government in the Republic of Ireland have been if this ghastly situation had come into fruition. Even though Irish territory is not on your map, wouldn't his Emerald Isle have potentially become desirable as an air staging base or supply source if Dublin couldn't been "strongarmed" diplomatically by either side. I understand your almost done here, but this just popped into my head...

I don't think it is fair to expect Tech to extend and recreate his entire map to entertain a whim by your good self, dude! :)

I made no expectation or demand. It was merely thrown out on the OFF CHANCE he might do something with it. Please, stop seeing ill in my motives.

My dear fellow. No one is on your case. Please relax, and let this thread carry on.

So, no Irish Invasion when things go really bad.....:mischief:
