The MA got to name the last operation so I'm getting in first and naming this operation Squirooi.

Spoiler semi-RPG type, not essential to read :

The letter went out from the Foreign Affairs office in Fanatiku to the Japanatican ambassador in the great city of Salamanca.
Essential you evatuate immediately... diplomatic negotiations failed... matter of utmost secrecy... sincerely Adviser Civman2004
With great sadness, Executive Ambassador Tudoi read the letter twice, picked up his meager belongings and walked out of his office, locking the door behind him. For the moment, his presence would not be required in the Iroquois homelands, and if he did not leave immediately he knew he would be in great danger.

Meanwhile, Deputy Adviser CivGeneral paced the hallways of the great Foreign Affairs office, on the one hand eager to see Japanatican land and prosperity increase, but on the other hand nervous, both about the armies in the field, and the citizens at home. This was a war that was backed by the citizens - the Iroquois had, many many moons before, shed Japanatican blood, and, although they had supported in the war against Rome, they had not atoned for their previous transgressions. They must be punished, and the people knew this. However there was a very strong contingent, particularly in Zarnia, that was against any further expansionist wars, and CivGeneral knew that if the goverment failed to act carefully, dissension could break out among the populace.

Minister Civman2004 practiced his speech
Gentlemen, I have signed legislation to outlaw the Iroquois. We begin attacking in 10 years.
providing words that would centuries later be taken in jest, but at this moment were deadly serious. He knew the Japanatican armies would be victorious, but was likewise concerned about the home situation.

We are about to declare war on the Iroquois. We have a number of objectives - more land, depriving them of their Iron and Saltpeter, capturing some furs, and more. It is a war heavily weighted in our favour. This thread is for discussion as the war progresses.

NO!

I demand that a poll be held where war with them is the only question. That poll offered many other choices, so it can't be used for such a momentous decision. There were people voting for things other than Iroquois, who would be opposed to this now. This is a big deal, and we need a real poll to decide it.

*orders Domo-Kun to prepare for a revolution*

Not to mention we need to build up some samurai first. Yes, we have some at the border, but what of the 10+ Mounted Warriors in Mauch Chaunk that will undoubtedly swarm our swordsmen?

You certainly like to jump the gun to revolution Epi, but I agree, we needa poll this, the last poll won by a hair. We need to upgrade our defense to prepare for an onslaught.

So, judging by the last poll, we seem to have a hairsbreadth majority that favors the same old same old, correct? A sterile, systematic pruning of our rivals one by one, with no challenge to ourselves whatsoever?

Let's build up our Samurai, but use them only to defend our great land. Doing so will allow us to build up a cultural and commercial nation that will be the envy of the world. This will make the late game more exciting, as we will have to fight to protect our sovereignty, yet be crafty enough to deter other civs from meeting any victory conditions.

That said, I still favor a Histograph victory that is rich with challenge, and will provide a grand final chapter in the Modern Age. However, I seem to be in the minority here. I hope I can dissuade enough citizens from having to endure yet another tiresome quest to conquer lands too corrupt to justify our investment of troops.

Let us build from what we have, and live the whole story.

Histograph. Peace. Now.

i agree with this call for histograph victory, with a histograph victory we wont have no fighting at all, but a balance of fighting and peace...

I'm alright with fighting, so long as we don't start it like this. This game simplifies things a lot, but still, just jumping into a war like this is bad.

And I think its time we moved on to Republic anyway. And with a revolution, I could move the capital to Odawara under the new government. ;)

To comment on all the above.

The latest poll stands as follows:
For attacking Iroquois now: 11 (Iro, then Bab) + 1 (Iro only) = 12
For not attacking Iroquois now: 9 (Neither) + 1 (Bab, then Iro) = 10
Abstain = 2
This is being generous by including the Bab then Iroquois as a not now. Of those who voted, more than 50% want to attack the Iroquois immediately. But if we include abstain as no, it's 50/50. (I did vote in this poll)
This is also consistent with the previous poll, which was 14-12 in favour of war. But again, if we include abstain, 50/50. (I did not vote in this poll)

Epi - There was a poll where this was the only question. It passed. It was close, so we polled again. It passed (only just) again. Pass depends on your view of abstain, of course. You can justify either way.

Either way, I'm stuffed. If we declare war (as was the apparent WOTP) I will probably be CCd by someone who wants more polls. If we delay, it will cost us valuable time, and they will get their armies back, and I will probably be CCd by someone who wanted the war. Whoever would be a FA minister? :)

I am using my executive power as Foreign Affairs Minister in interpreting the will of the people. We have time for a poll - I will poll again and then make the call. I expect that decision to be respected either way as it is really a matter of interpretation.

(At least this adds some excitement to my term as adviser) :D

Guys... we're on Monarch difficulty. It isn't going to get much harder than this.

I am the only one who voted that we should declare war on Babs first, that does not mean I do not want to attack Iroq. It is just that I thought that the Babs alliance against us with Rome deserves to be treated more harshly than the Iroq.

I don't care what the poll read, it wasn't proper. It could be unanimous for all I care, because that poll doesn't count regardless. Charging into war now is impatient, stupid, and unconsitutional.

So it could be the WOTP and still be unconstitutional?

Epi - your tone could be construed as fairly aggressive - as minister I am bound to act by the will of the people, regardless if whether you think it is impatient, stupid or unconstitutional. If you think my polls were not proper, CC me, but please don't go making accusations that you really can't back up, either against myself or against my deputy. I would have been well within my rights to declare war from either of the previous two polls, but due to the vocal opposition I have not - you could argue that I went against the WOTP by listening to you and others who called for yet another poll. Appreciate that I have listened to you and others
