Hello Guys, i'm new here and kinda new to mod, being too frustrated with C2C which can't be enjoyable anymore once industrial revolution kicks in, due to the turns lasting 1000 minutes.. I was looking for sort of an alternative, a good compromise between content and quality !

Seems like ROM: AND is the answer, given what i've been reading about it and the fact that it's still bein actively updated (Really hats off to the ppl workin on that). However i'm still skeptical and do not want to get into a long new game if it's to give it up in the middle due to performance issues.

So i was wondering what's the most optimal settings to enjoy a full run of Rise of Mankind, with no big trouble ? By no big trouble i mean no turns lasting more than 2-3 minutes in the final eras and potential crashes...
Up to many civs can i put ? What world size ? Any options to tick or untick ? (doesn't mean i wanna miss out the sickest features at the expense of a 2% increase of turn speed late game x), but still would not like to have the turns twice longer due to some random parameter)

If that can help i'm running the mod (latest build 1046) on the steam version of Civ 4 Bts, and for the specs :
SSD / W10 / i5 4590 / 12GB RAM / GTX 970.

I'd love the most complete experience out of the mod with as much things as possible in that game, while keepin some safety on the reliability of the game in the game's late stages..

Thanks a lot in advance for your help !

Have a great weekend guys.

PS : pardon my cheap english.

All look fine and dandy. If you can play BTS, you'll have no problem with ROM-ADN.

In options, minimize AI turns, DON'T use the view points, as you have enough video/ram.

That way, you can quickly scroll the map, and speed up the turns.

Wow thanks so much for your reply !

That's dope ? how come ROM is as light as BTS ? :O, shouldn't it involve more scripts and **** ?

Can i play til the end with like 32 civs on then ? with no turns starting to last more than 3 minutes ?

Shall i change any graphic settings on the game's options ? in C2C had to put everything on low and freeze animations to get turns faster somehow. And it'"s even funnier that civ 4 detects my GTX 970 as under the requirements hahaha probably doesn't know about that GPU, but then i guess the game should run right .

I have a lessor system then you, and I run Gigantic maps, with normal civs just fine.

I have set graphics to medium level, but have animations on and formations enabled.

Anti alising set to 2??.

To really optimize, you'd have to check out the windows forum for BTS play, and how to best set up, I use linux, so different kettle of fish so to speak.

Well thank you for infos mate !

I decided to start a game with 32 civs and set the graphical settings to high with AA to 0 ,and frozen animations since to me they don't matter much ! I hope everything will go fine and that i'll be able to see the end with no big trouble :D

You probably shouldn't freeze animations. If I remember correctly, that will cause some of the additional units to not display properly. We don't have nearly as much additional stuff as C2C does, but do let us know if and where you run into problems.

Alright i'm doing that !

Thanks again guys for your help and your welcomingness !

Seems like i have some fun ahead :D

Btw guys ! what about revolutions is it a good idea to enable that feature ? or is it likely to make the game even more unstable ? Thanks !

@Zaal there are a couple of threads with polls about most used game options, have a look there. As for stability I dare to say that the mod is rock stable: I've autoplayed many test games until the last turn with no issues, even on an experimental (not yet released) more than gigantic map (2x number of tiles): no crash, no freeze, 5 minutes turn times on modern era but my pc is 7 years old.

Hey mate ! Sorry tried to look for someone asking a similar question but i didn't manage to find something that exactly answered my interrogations :/ Will try to be more careful.! I'm like in the turn 300 out of 900 in a Gigantic world with 35 civs (somehow) i started with 32 in the settings anyway. Playing with dynamic difficulty which is on deity at the moment and turns already take 45 seconds and it keeps on growing ... :/ is that normal, anyways to reduce that time ? I'm just at the third of the game.. don't want to imagine what it's likely to be in the last hundreds...

Aside from that. I'm having a blast with the mod it's amazing the amout of work put into and the depth it has. Like it's not too much 'like in C2C" and still ultra complete. Just a bit worried about the turn times, thank god i have book to read every turn break.

You can try switching on graphics paging and turning off storms in the BUG menu. The two key culprits however are the Gigantic map size and the 35 civs. You probably gained three others by using BarbCiv or Revolutions, both of which can spawn new civs in the game.

Thank you sir ! I'll try that ! The extra civs are prob due to barb civ (have it enabled, didnt notice it) since i don't have revolutions on.

Crazy how a 10 year old game can put a modern machine down, cuz it's not multicore designed ^^

What would the turn time be like in modern era with 12 civs on a medium size map ? Just bein curious here, any approximations ?

"Acceptable" is all I can remember, I'm afraid. :)
