I'm sorry to make such a fuss over the details of my issues, but at least I did a good job of reporting it. It's a bit long, hoped you don't mind. :)

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium (ENG)
Game: Sid Meier's Civilization III
Patches?: None. It's completely original.
Problem: Uninstalling Issues
Details:

I decided to uninstall Civ 3 as it's taking up too many spaces in my C hard drive. I went to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features > Find "Civilization III" > Uninstall/Repair. (As usual)

The problem came up when it asked me for the "setup.ini" file, which is unusual for a game...

The "setup.ini" file is located in my disk, so I loaded it into my CD-drive, and pressed "Next >".

What it does, it actually reinstalls the game...That's pretty abnormal...

Had Done: Checked Google, found out that Civ 3's installation issues are pretty common after the first patch. However, there's no issues about this problem without the patches.

Had Done again: Re-checked everything. Now getting confused and annoyed at the fact that even the original game can corrupt the uninstallation process...

Current Status: I had followed another thread in this forum. It's a bit old (8 years ago) and tried its instructions. Gone to use regedit but failed to find any registry keys for Civilization III. Went and use "Find..." to delete the remaining registry keys. Then deleted the whole Civilization III installation folder. The only thing left is the "Civilization III" shortcut in the Programs and Features list of applications. I can't remove that one.

What should I do? Thanks in advance.

Do I have to add more specific details?

Or is this problem way too hard to fix?

Any answer is fine. I don't like to bump this, but it seems I have no other choices. It's a worst dilemma I ever had. :(

Win7 is about the same as Vista. So I would expect you to get to the uninstall and select the program. It should have offered uninstall or change. Repair is usually a reinstall process.

So I am unclear as to where you are now. Is it that you still have the directories for civ and it shows up in the start menu?

If the folder is still there, just use Explorer ro delete it.
After that delete the shortcut from the start menu. Forget the reg entries, unless you want to reinstall.

I'm currently stuck having a broken uninstaller. The main problem is that it never uninstalls my Civ III, and kept reinstalling itself.

The other problem is the uninstall icon shown in Programs and Features. It never cease to disappear at all.

That's about it. :( I can't specify anything else other than that. :(

Sp what is the situation now? The goal is to at least remove the Civ stuff from the HD correct? What happens, if you go to Start, Computer and then the local HD. Do you find the folder? It should be either Infogrammes or Atari.

If none of these and none for Firaxis, then it is gone. You can then delete the Start Menu icon and forget it.
